Let’s take a look at the redraft and dynasty fantasy football impact of the New England Patriots’ selection of Tyquan Thornton.
Team Drafted: New England Patriots
Pick Selected: Round 2, No. 36 overall
2022 Redraft Fantasy Football Outlook
The Patriots pull off another double-take-worthy pick by selecting Tyquan Thortnon in the second round of the NFL Draft. Thortnon tested out as an elite-level athlete at the combine with a blazing 4.28 40-yard dash time and above 90th percentile speed and burst scores, but this pick was a massive reach. With an expected draft position of 123 per Grindingthemocks.com, the Patriots were seduced by the speed juice to take him this early. While New England could ultimately be proven right if Thortnon hits, for this season, he will be competing for targets with DeVante Parker, Nelson Agholor, Kendrick Bourne, and their slew of tight ends and running backs on a run-first team. Thortnon will be outside my top 70 redraft wide receivers unless the pass-catching options are pared down before Week 1.

Initial redraft ranking: WR71
2022 NFL Draft Profile
Say hello to the fastest man on Earth. Well at least by the NFL Combine standards for a short period of time. Baylor’s Tyquan Thorton broke John Ross‘ 4.22 record with an unofficial 4.21 40-yard dash – the fastest mark ever recorded.
Although, he did not hold the record for long as his official time came in just short of the record at 4.28 seconds.
The Baylor wideout was barely on my radar for fantasy football purposes before the NFL Combine, which was clearly an oversight on my part. His speed alone will get him decent draft capital.
Thornton’s speed translated well into on-field production as he graded out as a top-10 wideout in PFF receiving grade from the intermediate level of the field (10-19 yards) last season.
