NBA DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer: Friday (4/1)

We’re into April! That sounds crazy to say because it means we’re in one of the most critical times of the season. We only have a week remaining, and it will lead to some wacky things over the closing 10 days!

After a small slate on Thursday, we’re looking at a 10-game card here. That means we have many players to break down and some strange rotations to dig into. There are more tanking teams on this slate than usual, and that’s undoubtedly going to cause some chaos. It also means there’s a ton of value, too, and that’s all we can hope for as DFS aficionados!

Core Plays

Luka Doncic (PG – DAL): $12,100 DraftKings, $11,300 FanDuel
Doncic isn’t in the MVP running, but he probably should be with his recent play. He’s flirting with a 40 percent usage rate with Porzingis off the floor this season, generating a 62-point average over his last 23 games played. That makes him worthy at any salary, especially with Washington ranked 24th in total defense. In their one meeting earlier this year, Luka had 33 points and 10 assists.

Al Horford (PF/C – BOS): $6,300 DraftKings, $6,300 FanDuel
Al has been a pleasant surprise all season, but he should be asked to do even more with Robert Williams out of the lineup. That means more minutes and rebounds for Big Al, with Horford collecting 37 DK points without him on Wednesday. He’s averaging over 35 fantasy points per game when Williams has sat this season, and that should be easy to duplicate against a 26th-ranked Pacers defense.

De’Anthony Melton (PG/SG – MEM): $5,200 DraftKings, $5,600 FanDuel
Fantasy managers have been waiting for Melton to play a monster role his entire career, and we might finally get our wish here. Memphis will be without Morant, Jones, Bane, Adams, and Jackson, leaving Melton with the starting point guard job and all the touches he can handle. It also means he’ll likely play 30-35 minutes, which is scary since he’s averaging 31 DK points per game across 24 minutes a night over his last six outings.

Cash Game Considerations

Nikola Jokic (C – DEN): $12,500 DraftKings, $11,600 FanDuel
Jokic has been the best player in fantasy all season, leading the NBA with 62 DraftKings points per game. His floor is what makes him such an elite cash game option, scoring at least 41 DK points in all but one game this season. That’s amazing since he plays the fastest-paced team in the NBA here, with the T’Wolves owning a 22nd OPRK against opposing centers. In their three matchups this season, Jokic is averaging 60.6 DK points per game.

Brandon Ingram (SF – NOP): $7,600 DraftKings, $8,600 FanDuel
This DraftKings price doesn’t add up. Ingram has been fantastic since his return from injury, scoring at least 37 DK points in seven straight games. He’s also got a 45-point average in that span, and you know he’ll be motivated against an LA team that gave up on him. In their two matchups this season, BI is averaging 41 fantasy points per game. That’s no surprise, with Los Angeles ranked sixth in pace and 25th in total defense.

Brandon Clarke (PF/C – MEM): $4,000 DraftKings, $4,400 FanDuel
Clarke is another guy who always plays well when given the opportunity. That should certainly be the case here, with BC looking at a 30-minute role in the absence of JJJ and Adams. If you look at the 20 games Clarks has played at least 23 minutes, he’s averaging 32 fantasy points per game! That’s unbelievable from a $4K player, making him one of the safest plays on this slate.

GPP Targets

D’Angelo Russell (PG/SG – MIN): $6,400 DraftKings, $5,400 FanDuel
There’s no doubt that D-Lo is struggling right now, but this price is getting way too cheap. This guy still can drop 40 fantasy points on any given night, averaging 36 DK points per game for the season. That’s amazing from a $6K player, and Minnesota needs to him to play well in the most crucial game of their season. We also don’t mind that Denver owns a 22nd OPRK against opposing guards, with Russell averaging 34 DK points per game in their two matchups this season.

Josh Christopher (SF – HOU): $4,800 DraftKings, $4,500 FanDuel
With Wood, Gordon and Sengun all possibly missing this game, Christopher is finally getting some good minutes off the bench. He’s played at least 19 minutes in four straight games, scoring at least 27 DK points in three of those. That boost in production has led to a 27-minute average over the last two games, combining for 69 DK points. Good luck finding that from another sub-$5K player, especially against a 29th-ranked Kings defense.

John Konchar (SG/SF – MEM): $3,200 DraftKings, $4,000 FanDuel
Someone in Memphis needs to play with so many key players out of the lineup. Konchar looks like a good bet because he’s been one of their most productive bench players this season. If you look at the nine games he’s played at least 25 minutes, Konchar is averaging over 30 fantasy points per game. His elite rebounding is a primary reason why and it makes him one of the best punt plays in this price range since he’s going to have to play at least 20 minutes.

Value Plays

Damian Jones (C – SAC): $5,500 DraftKings, $5,300 FanDuel
Now that Holmes, Sabonis, and Fox are all out of the picture in Sacramento, Jones has taken over this starting center job. That led to one of the best games of his career on Wednesday, collecting 52.3 DK points across 34 minutes of action. We love that since he has the same matchup here, with Houston ranked dead-last in both points allowed and defensive efficiency.

Isaiah Stewart (C – DET): $5,200 DraftKings, $5,800 FanDuel
Beef Stew has been crushing it for weeks. The big man has scored at least 22 DK points in each of the last 23 games he’s finished, posting a 30-point average in that span. That’s all you can hope for from a sub-$6K player, and he needs to keep doing that with Jerami Grant out of the lineup. The best part is this matchup, with OKC surrendering the fourth-most fantasy point to opposing centers while owning one of the worst frontcourts in the NBA.

Tomas Satoransky (PG – WAS): $4,400 DraftKings, $4,700 FanDuel
It’s strange that Washington is riding Sato at point guard in this rebuild mode, but it’s made him fantasy relevant once again. Satoransky has always been a stat-stuffer when given a chance, recording a double-double on Wednesday, despite not making a shot. That has led to Sato scoring at least 23 DK points in four straight fixtures, averaging nearly 30 fantasy points per game in that span.
