It’s so early that it’s too early to talk about how early it is. Seriously. We’re the equivalent of a handful of plays into a football game. A couple of minutes into a basketball game. Or, more appropriately, a batter or two into a baseball game.
Everyone take a deep breath. Relax. If the past eight or nine games had taken place in June, you wouldn’t have noticed.
With that said, you are going to see some movement in the trade chart, and not just from injuries. Because sometimes players have legitimately changed expectations after just a couple of weeks.
I had concerns that Logan Webb and Carlos Rodon could repeat their 2021 performances. Those concerns have abated. Justin Verlander looks like his old self. Brandon Lowe looks like he did last year. When you have doubts about players, and those players immediately show those doubts to be unfounded, it’s ok to admit that your preseason evaluations were wrong.
Be patient and be cautious but don’t be afraid to reevaluate your assessments, and to do so constantly. And make sure you consult the trade chart to get the best deal.
