Dynasty Trade Value Risers & Fallers (2022 Fantasy Football)

We recently updated our dynasty trade value chart for April. Here are a few players who have seen their values rise and fall along with actionable trade advice for each.

Risers

Matt Ryan (QB – IND)
Superflex Dynasty Trade Value: 27 (+6)

Ryan will be 37 when he steps under center for the Colts, but he finds himself in a good spot. Jonathan Taylor will take pressure off Ryan to feel like he needs to play hero ball, and Ryan will have Michael Pittman to feed targets. Ryan will also play 12 of his games indoors, where he has more fantasy points per game, a higher completion percentage, and a better touchdown rate than when he plays outdoors. Ryan won’t be costly in dynasty leagues, as his age and drop in production in 2021 will both weigh heavily on managers suffering from recency bias. There is no reason why Ryan can’t have a season similar to the one Philip Rivers had in 2020 (4,100 yards/24 TDs), which makes him a nice QB2.

Buy, Sell, or Hold: BUY

Tua Tagovailoa (QB – MIA)
Superflex Dynasty Trade Value: 44 (+3)

Tua has been very polarizing lately. I’ve written about him before, but I think he’s in for a much better 2022 than people think. Adding Hill should open up that offense quite a bit and allow Tua to show off his deep ball more. Waddle should eat as well with the offense improving, which means that Tua should see a bump in his production in the short term. If I roster Tua, I’m holding for anything less than an overpay. If I am targeting him, I am trying to sell the idea that Tua could fail in order to find out if I can buy him low. It might not work, but Tua is someone I’m willing to overpay for on the right team.

Buy, Sell, or Hold: BUY

Leonard Fournette (RB – TB)
Dynasty Trade Value: 33 (+11)

Regardless of your league’s scoring system, Fournette finished as a top-eight running back in 2021. With the return of Tom Brady, the Buccaneers will have one of the better offensives this season. Now that Ronald Jones is in Kansas City, Fournette will have a featured role in Tampa. Furthermore, after signing him to a three-year contract worth $21 million, don’t expect the Buccaneers to invest a high draft pick in another running back.

Buy, Sell, or Hold: BUY

JuJu Smith-Schuster (WR – KC)
Dynasty Trade Value: 25 (+2)

Smith-Schuster is going to be a polarizing player for the next six months, as this isn’t the first time we’ve seen him be anointed as the WR1 on a team. In 2019, the Steelers let Antonio Brown walk, and Smith-Schuster ascended to the top of depth chart. What followed were three years of mostly pedestrian production marred by poor quarterback play and injuries. Now he goes to Kansas City, where he will play with Patrick Mahomes in the best offensive environment he’s been part of since 2018, when he had over 1,400 yards. Remarkably, Smith-Schuster is still just 25 years old, so he is still young by NFL standards. That said, his value might never be higher, so if you haven’t tried to offload him, you should do it soon. Injuries and an inability to separate off the line of scrimmage make me think he is nothing more than a possession receiver with a TikTok.

Buy, Sell, or Hold: SELL

Jerry Jeudy (WR – DEN)
Dynasty Trade Value: 45 (+2)

Jeudy is the best option for new Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, and he should have no problem proving it on the field. Wilson likes to cook, and it’s very likely that Denver traded for him to let him do just that. Jeudy can get open downfield and is the perfect receiving threat for Wilson, who likes to throw long. As a sophomore at Alabama, Jeudy won the Biletnikoff Award for the best college receiver, and his talents have only gotten sharper. He’s a clear buy if you can get him, but most Jeudy managers won’t be that willing to sell him low at the moment.

Buy, Sell, or Hold: BUY

Mike Evans (WR – TB)
Dynasty Trade Value: 40 (+2)

Evans is the most underrated player yet again in the dynasty community. Evans has been a top-20 WR seven times in his first eight seasons and has been a top-10 wide receiver three times in the last four years. Evans has been Tom Brady‘s main red-zone weapon in a high-powered offense that has been top three in total points the last three seasons, so now is the time to buy Evans from fantasy owners who perhaps are trying to get younger at the position. You can write in pen 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns for Evans as his floor in 2022. How many other players can you say that about?

Buy, Sell, or Hold: BUY

Albert Okwuegbunam (TE – DEN)
Dynasty Trade Value: 27 (+4)

With Noah Fant out of town, it’s time for Albert Okwuegbunam to spread his wings as he soars up the dynasty rankings. Okwuegbunam deserves the helium that he’s receiving. In limited playing time last year, he displayed elite efficiency, ranking fourth in yards per route run and 11th in yards per target at the position. With a 100th percentile speed score combined with his imposing 6-6 frame and the news that Nathaniel Hackett will deploy him as a “hybrid” tight end/receiver, the sky is the limit catching passes from Russell Wilson. With the hype building, there will come a time to trade him away in dynasty, but I consider him a hold for now.
– Derek Brown

Buy, Sell, or Hold: HOLD

Gerald Everett (TE – LAC)
Dynasty Trade Value: 5 (+3)

There is a lot of excitement around Gerald Everett signing with the Chargers. However, Everett is not walking into a perfect situation despite the Chargers having one of the best offenses in the NFL. With Mike Williams coming back, there are only 83 vacated targets from last season, which came from Jared Cook. That is not going to be enough for Everett to be a TE1 in 2022 or beyond. If Everett isn’t productive, the Chargers can get away from his contract in 2023 for just a $4 million cap hit. There is no guarantee that Everett will remain on the Chargers if he is not productive in 2022. Therefore, let someone else make a play for Everett, because he is going to be an anchor on whichever dynasty roster he lands on.

Fallers

Jimmy Garoppolo (QB – SF)
Superflex Dynasty Trade Value: 15 (-5)

Seemingly every quarterback of note has been on the move during this whirlwind of an offseason, from Russell Wilson to Carson Wentz. Yet, Garoppolo is still in San Francisco, to the dismay of both him and the 49ers. San Francisco has been unable to find a trade partner and its next chance might not come until the 2022 NFL Draft. This feels like the ultimate game of chicken, as the 49ers could certainly benefit from releasing Garoppolo and getting his $25 million salary off their books. But they seem dead set on getting something for him. Garoppolo’s future is entirely in limbo. He could wind up being a starter in 2022 for a team that couldn’t land a QB in the draft, or he could be sitting behind Trey Lance as San Francisco’s highly paid backup. Even when you throw all of this uncertainty out the window, it’s obvious that Garoppolo’s career is on the downswing. Like his real-life team, you’d be wise to get anything you can for him in fantasy football.

Buy, Sell, or Hold: SELL

Trevor Lawrence (QB – JAC)
Superflex Dynasty Trade Value: 51 (-3)

A year ago, everyone was excited to draft Lawrence. While he had a disappointing rookie season, no one should be panicking. Peyton Manning led the league in interceptions as a rookie and went on to have a Hall of Fame career. More importantly, the Jaguars have improved from a year ago. They added several weapons and offensive linemen in free agency and could add a few more during the draft.
– Mike Fanelli

Buy, Sell, or Hold: BUY

Isaiah Spiller (RB – Texas A&M)
Dynasty Trade Value: 17 (-17)

While Isaiah Spiller is still considered by many to be the RB3 in this rookie running back class, it’s not surprising to see that he’s tumbled down the rankings. Even checking in at 6-0 and 217 pounds, Spiller severely disappointed with his testing metrics. A 20th percentile 40-yard dash (4.69 pro day adjusted time) and 24th percentile burst score (per PlayerProfiler.com) won’t capsize him like the Titanic, but it does dim his star to a degree. Spiller could rebound if his draft capital surprises (second round) or he finds a prime landing spot inside the first four rounds of the NFL draft. If you’ve already completed your rookie draft, he’s easily a hold, and just hope for the best at this point.
– Derek Brown

Buy, Sell, or Hold: HOLD

Chase Claypool (WR – PIT)
Dynasty Trade Value: 32 (-2)

Claypool was already casting doubts in Pittsburgh due to some selfish behavior last season, which included celebrating a first down while his team was in the hurry-up offense while playing from behind late in a close game. There are also questions about the QB situation in Pittsburgh. The newly signed Mitchell Trubisky has never managed to sustain two relevant fantasy wide receivers before. Not to mention that we will see this offense run through Najee Harris on the ground and Diontae Johnson. Even if the Steelers draft a rookie QB, it’s still going to take some time before Claypool sees enough fantasy targets to help him replicate some of the success of his rookie year. You might not get a premium price for Claypool, but if you can get yourself a late first-round pick this year, I would take that and use it to target a wide receiver in this draft class.
