With the growing popularity of 2QB and superflex fantasy football leagues, the quarterback has never been more important in the world of fake football. That’s especially the case in dynasty formats. We’re here to help you navigate the trading waters of your league or your upcoming dynasty startup fantasy football drafts.
After providing his targets, Pat Fitzmaurice is back to share dynasty fantasy football quarterbacks he’s avoiding. These are players he is lower on versus our dynasty Expert Consensus Rankings.

Kyler Murray (QB – ARI)
Pat’s Rank: QB5 | Dynasty ECR: QB4
The surface stats (yardage, TDs) suggest that Murray stagnated in 2021, but the efficiency numbers (completion percentage, YPA, passer rating) indicate continued growth as a passer. A season-ending DeAndre Hopkins injury may have contributed to Murray’s late-season downturn. But it’s fair to wonder whether Kliff Kingsbury is capable of getting the best out of Murray. A downturn in rushing numbers makes Murray’s 819-yard, 11-TD rushing performance in 2020 look more like an outlier than the norm.
Russell Wilson (QB – SEA)
Pat’s Rank: QB13 | Dynasty ECR: QB9
Perennially one of the most dependable fantasy QBs, Wilson finished QB13 in fantasy points per game last season and struggled after coming back from a grisly finger injury that cost him three midseason games. The 33-year-old Wilson doesn’t run much anymore, and he struggled mightily to convert third downs last season. Don’t invest unless you get a discount.
Matthew Stafford (QB – LAR)
Pat’s Rank: QB14 | Dynasty ECR: QB12
The first year in Los Angeles resulted in a QB5 fantasy finish, his best since 2013. Stafford’s ecosystem should remain strong: He has wunderkind Sean McVay calling plays for him, he has a superstar WR in Cooper Kupp, and he gets WR Robert Woods back from a torn ACL. The upside is limited for a non-running QB, but Stafford’s floor is sturdy.
Kirk Cousins (QB – MIN)
Pat’s Rank: QB25 | Dynasty ECR: QB19
The walking definition of a league-average quarterback. Cousins’ 2021 season was basically a carbon copy of his 2020 season, and he finished QB11 in fantasy scoring both years. It’s possible he plays somewhere other than Minnesota in 2022, but a $35 million base salary will make him hard to move. However, after that, all bets are off. For fantasy purposes, he’s a safe, boring investment.
Ryan Tannehill (QB – TEN)
Pat’s Rank: QB28 | Dynasty ECR: QB20
Tannehill had two 300-yard games in 17 starts last season and had only four games with multiple TD passes. He finished QB12 in fantasy scoring, propping up his value with seven TD runs. Tannehill averaged 219.6 passing yards a game, ranking 20th in that category. Tannehill will be entering his age-34 season, so there’s no hidden upside here. The conservative nature of the Tennessee offense limits his fantasy potential.
