NBA DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer: Thursday (2/10)

NBA DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer: Thursday (2/10)

This is the most challenging article of the season. Today marks the trade deadline, and it means that most of the value won’t open up until all of those deals are complete. We’re going to try our best to capitalize on the moves already made, but if the last few days are any indication, we could be in for a wild slate!

With the trade deadline happening today, we’re left with just seven games. That’s a perfect amount for DFS, giving us plenty of options while not overwhelming us. We also have numerous teams who likely won’t make moves because of where they’re positioned in the standings, and that’s a blessing in disguise as well!

Injury Report

Core Plays

Luka Doncic (PG – DAL): $12,400 DraftKings, $11,200 FanDuel
Luka is feeling it right now. The Slovenian stud has at least 65 DraftKings points in five of his last six games, scoring 54-plus in seven straight outings. It’s easy to understand why, with Doncic taking on an even more significant workload in the absence of Porzingis. He was already leading the NBA with a 36 percent usage rate when KP was playing, and he’s simply doing everything for Dallas with him out.

Kyrie Irving (PG – BKN): $10,400 DraftKings, $9,400 FanDuel
This is such a good spot for Kyrie. He’s finally starting to find his game, and he’s going to have to do everything for Brooklyn here. The Nets are missing Durant, Harden, Aldridge, and Harris, putting Kyrie in line for 35 minutes, 25 shots, and a 40 percent usage rate. He should be an $11K player in that role, and we certainly don’t mind that Washington surrenders the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing guards, either.

Jimmy Butler (SG/SF – MIA): $9,300 DraftKings, $9,200 FanDuel
JB has been a beast all season, scoring at least 33 DK points in 30 of the 34 games he finished. That alone is a fantastic floor from a $9K player, and we love his 47-point average over the last eight outings. The best part of this is the matchup, though, with New Orleans ranked 19th in defensive efficiency. In their one matchup earlier this season, Jimmy dropped a 31-point triple-double if you needed any more incentive.

Cash Game Considerations

Giannis Antetokounmpo (PF – MIL): $12,000 DraftKings, $11,500 FanDuel
Giannis has one of the best floors in fantasy, scoring at least 41 fantasy points in 43 of 46 games this season. He’s been even better recently, averaging 58 DraftKings points per game across his last 23 outings. That makes him and Nikola Jokic the best cash game options on every slate, and you know Giannis will be motivated against the best team in the NBA.

Pascal Siakam (PF – TOR): $9,800 DraftKings, $10,400 FanDuel
This dude is on an unbelievable run. Siakam has at least 36 DK points in 29 straight games, posting a 49-point average in that span. He’s also got at least 51 fantasy points in four straight fixtures, but this matchup is the icing on the cake. The Rockets rank last in points allowed and defensive efficiency while playing at the fastest pace in the NBA.

Spencer Dinwiddie (PG – WAS): $6,000 DraftKings, $5,700 FanDuel
This has been working for us all season. Dinwiddie runs the show when Bradley Beal is out, and it looks like he will have this role for the remainder of the season. Spencer has scored at least 30 DK points in 11 of the 13 games Beal has missed, averaging nearly 40 fantasy points per game. Good luck finding that from another $6K player, especially one who gets a revenge game against a team amid a nine-game losing streak.

GPP Targets

Kevin Porter Jr (PG – HOU): $6,000 DraftKings, $6,700 FanDuel
This pricing makes no sense. KPJ has been in my articles for two weeks now, and he’s going to remain in them until he gets above $7,000. He’s got at least 27 DK points in nine of his last 10 games, scoring 35 or more fantasy points in six of those. That’s incredible from such an affordable player, and it’s clear he’s becoming the focal point of this offense right now.

Montrezl Harrell (C – WAS): $4,900 DraftKings, $4,800 FanDuel
With Gafford and Beal both out, Harrell needs to do more for this offense. We also don’t mind that Thomas Bryant is looking at a minutes cap, forcing Trez into at least 20 minutes. This dude always produces when given that sort of role, averaging 30 DK points per game in the 29 outings he’s played at least 21 minutes. That’s a monster total from a sub-$5K player, and this Brooklyn team is one of the only clubs that can’t outmatch Harrell with their size.

Maxi Kleber (C – DAL): $4,000 DraftKings, $5,100 FanDuel
Kleber has been stepping up in the absence of Porzingis, and it makes it hard to understand why he’s just $4K on DraftKings. He’s got at least 29 DK points in three of his last five games, scoring 38 or more in two of those. That’s impossible to find from someone this cheap, particularly with Kleber looking at an expanded role.

Value Plays

Alperen Sengun (PF/C – HOU): $4,800 DraftKings, $5,100 FanDuel
All we’ve wanted for Sengun is a minutes bump, and we’re finally getting treated like we deserve! He’s played at least 25 minutes in four straight fixtures, scoring at least 24 fantasy points in all of those. We’re talking about a guy who’s averaging over 1.2 DK points per minute, making him impossible to fade with this minute’s bump.

James Johnson (PF – BKN): $4,200 DraftKings, $4,900 FanDuel
Brooklyn is missing four of its best players, but JJ is still here kicking butt. He’s played at least 24 minutes in six of his last eight games, averaging 25 DK points per game in those six outings. You can’t ask for any more from such a cheap player, and he needs to do some playmaking with so many Nets on the sidelines. Getting to face a 22nd-ranked Wizards defense is the cherry on top!

Kelly Olynyk (PF/C – DET): $3,700 DraftKings, $3,700 FanDuel
Olynyk has been terrible since his return from injury, but this price is nuts! He’s been a $6K player throughout his career, averaging nearly 30 fantasy points per game before injuring his knee. If you get 30 DK points from a sub-$4K player, you’ve stumbled into one of the optimal plays of the night.

Advantageous Pricing

  • Luka Doncic (PG- DAL): $12,400 DraftKings, $11,200 FanDuel
  • Kyle Lowry (PG – MIA): $6,700 DraftKings, $5,400 FanDuel

  • Cam Thomas (SG – BKN): $5,000 DraftKings, $6,000 FanDuel
  • David Duke (PG – BKN): $3,400 DraftKings, $5,200 FanDuel
  • Jonathan Kuminga (PG – GSW): $4,300 DraftKings, $5,200 FanDuel
  • Maxi Kleber (C – DAL): $4,000 DraftKings, $5,100 FanDuel
