NBA DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer: Monday (2/14)

NBA DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer: Monday (2/14)

That football game on Sunday was terrific, but it’s the NBA’s time to shine! This is the final stretch for the NBA, with only two months left in the season. Both conferences are bunched up, too, so it’s going to lead to an exciting closing stretch.

After just two games on Sunday, we’re looking at a full nine-game card here. That means we have a plentiful player pool, and it’s going to be fun to break it down. With that in mind, let’s kick things off with the schedule and odds!

Injury Report

Core Plays

Giannis Antetokounmpo (SF/PF – MIL): $12,000 DraftKings, $11,400 FanDuel
Giannis is quite simply one of the easiest plays on every slate. This dude has at least 38 DraftKings points in 45 of 47 games, averaging 57 DK points per game. That’s the second-best total in the NBA, and it should be effortless to reach that total against a Portland team that ranks 25th in points allowed and 28th in defensive efficiency ratings. In their last matchup, he had 54 DK points, despite playing just 24 minutes!

Donovan Mitchell (PG/SG – UTA): $9,200 DraftKings, $8,800 FanDuel
Playing superstars against the Rockets is a cheat code. Houston ranks second in pace and dead-last in both defensive efficiency and points allowed. That makes Mitchell tough to fade, with DM scoring at least 43 DK points in seven of his last nine games. That’s right on par with his season average, with Mitchell averaging 1.4 DK points per minute in his first matchup with Houston.

Cam Thomas (SG – BKN): $5,700 DraftKings, $7,100 FanDuel
With Kyrie, KD, Simmons, and Harris all out, Cam is one of the focal points of this Brooklyn offense. That’s led to him playing at least 28 minutes in five straight fixtures while taking at least 16 shots in each of those. It’s no empty usage either, with Thomas scoring at least 36 fantasy points in four of those five games. We love that against Sacramento, with the Kings ranked 29th in defensive efficiency and points allowed.

Cash Game Considerations

Nikola Jokic (C – DEN): $12,200 DraftKings, $11,300 FanDuel
The Joker is in this section every game he plays. I’ll just reiterate the same statistics, with Jokic scoring at least 41 DK points in all but one game this season. That’s led to a league-leading 60 DK points per game, and we certainly don’t expect Orlando to slow him down behind their 27th OPRK against opposing centers.

Kyle Kuzma (SF/PF – WAS): $8,600 DraftKings, $7,700 FanDuel
With Beal injured and Spencer Dinwiddie getting traded, Kuzma is the focal point of this offense. In the first two games without those two, Kuz combined for 37 points, 21 rebounds, and 17 assists. He scored at least 47 DK points in both of those, and it has his average approaching 40 DK points per game over the last month. That looks even better against Detroit, with the Pistons ranked 26th in defensive efficiency ratings.

Seth Curry (PG/SG – BKN): $5,400 DraftKings, $5,300 FanDuel
Curry was the sneaky piece of that Simmons-Harden trade, and it looks like he could be in for a huge night with so many players missing. We already mentioned the four guys out for Brooklyn, and it’s going to force Curry into 35-40 minutes, 15-20 shots, and a 30 percent usage rate. If he does that at this $5K price tag, he’s one of the best per-dollar plays on the board against one of the worst defenses in the NBA.

GPP Targets

Hassan Whiteside (C – UTA): $5,900 DraftKings, $7,300 FanDuel
Whiteside has been a GPP player throughout his career, mixing 50-point gems with 10-point duds. What we love here is that he’s stepping up for the injured Gobert, scoring at least 45 DK points in back-to-back games. That makes him tough to fade against Houston, with the Rockets surrendering the most fantasy points to opposing centers.

Terance Mann (SG/SF – LAC): $4,300 DraftKings, $5,600 FanDuel
Mann was already playing a more prominent role recently, and we have to believe he’s in for even more with Powell going down as well. Terance has played at least 25 minutes in four straight outings, scoring at least 26 DK points in all of those. He’s also averaging 32 DraftKings points per game in that span and should be asked to play massive minutes to oppose this elite Warriors backcourt.

Kemba Walker (PG – NYK): $4,300 DraftKings, $4,500 FanDuel
I trust Kemba about as much as my ex-girlfriend, but he’s in a great spot here. He played 25 minutes in the most recent outing and simply needs to do more with Barrett out for the foreseeable future. This guy has shown 40-point potential at times this season, and that’d be quite the total from a $4K player. The matchup might be the best part of this, though, with Oklahoma City owning a 20th OPRK against opposing point guards.

Value Plays

Ayo Dosunmu (PG/SG – CHI): $5,900 DraftKings, $6,500 FanDuel
With Ball and Caruso both out, Ayo has been a revelation. Outside of one game where he got injured, Dosumnu has scored at least 29 DK points in six of his last seven games. We love that since LaVine is expected to sit here, giving this hustler even more ball-handling duties. The matchup isn’t too shabby either, with the Spurs sitting 25th in total defense and fifth in pace.

Devin Vassell (SF – SAS): $5,200 DraftKings, $5,800 FanDuel
The Derrick White trade has really opened up the floor for Vassell. This athletic wing has scored at least 30 DraftKings points in three straight games since that move. That means he’s due for a $1,000 price bump, especially since he faces a Chicago team that’s allowing nearly 120 points per game since January 28.

Raul Neto (PG – WAS): $4,400 DraftKings, $4,500 FanDuel
It looks like Neto will be the starting point guard in Washington. He’s played at least 28 minutes in the two games since the Dinwiddie trade, combining for 49.3 DK points. That’s all you can ask for from a $4,500 player, and that’s the guy we’ve seen throughout his career. In fact, Raul is averaging 28 DK points per game in the 14 outings he’s played at least 29 minutes since the start of last season. Not to mention, Detroit surrenders the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing point guards this season.
