Dynasty Players to Sell (2022 Fantasy Football)

Figuring out when the correct time to sell a player in Dynasty is very difficult. There are many different factors you need to consider when you are pondering whether or not to deal a player. You need to consider their age, their performance, your team’s needs, and whether you’ll get adequate value in return for the player you are trying to sell. Today, I’ll be looking at a few players that I believe you should consider trading and what value you should be wanting in return. I’ll be using Fantasy Pros’ current Dynasty rankings.

Elijah Mitchell (RB – SF)
FantasyPros ECR: RB20

Mitchell had a fantastic 2021 season that resembled James Robinson‘s 2020 campaign. He went undrafted in the majority of leagues and for those who picked him up, he was a “league winner.” Mitchell ran for 963 yards and five touchdowns while adding 137 receiving yards and another touchdown on his way to an RB26 finish. He was solid when he played, but he did have some durability issues, missing five games in the 2021 season. An RB in a Kyle Shanahan offense is fantasy gold, but deciding on who will be the lead back next season is in question. They love Raheem Mostert and could re-sign him, Jeff Wilson flashed as well when healthy, and Trey Sermon could take a step forward after a disappointing season. Take advantage of his perceived value and get solid value in return for him.

Some players I’d be interested in return are Michael Carter, Travis Etienne, A.J. Dillon, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. You could also potentially get a draft pick to go along with these players, which makes it even more tempting to trade Mitchell.

George Kittle (TE – SF)
FantasyPros ECR: TE4

Don’t get me wrong, Kittle is a fantastic player and fantasy tight end. But the injuries are starting to pile up and he isn’t a major touchdown hog. He’s also asked to block more often than other tight ends, and he’s great at that aspect of the game. The 49ers are expected to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance should enter the 2022 season as the starting QB. Lance is a completely different player than Garoppolo and uses his legs to move the chains when pressure arises. A mobile quarterback could mean not as many pass attempts, which hurts Kittle’s upside. Also, the 49ers have playmakers all over the offense. Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk each had solid seasons and Samuel won people fantasy championships this year. Kittle is still valued very highly by the fantasy community, but if I could get players like Dallas Goedert or T.J. Hockenson plus a 1st or early 2nd, I would strongly consider making that trade.

Dalvin Cook (RB – MIN)
FantasyPros ECR: RB9

Cook has been a fantastic running back since entering the NFL in 2017. He has that big playability and is a solid pass-catcher out of the backfield which provides a high ceiling for his fantasy value. The only problem with Cook is his durability. He’s failed to play an entire season thus far and only appeared in 14 out of 18 games this past season. While his play is elite when he is on the field, it’s almost a near guarantee that he’s bound to miss 2-3 games at this point. You can still get a good value in return for Cook because of his elite play while he’s on the field and is a great target for dynasty managers that are contending. If you are rebuilding and want to trade him, some players I’d look for in return are Antonio Gibson, Javonte Williams, Cam Akers, or J.K. Dobbins. You could also get a few picks to go along with those players, which helps sweeten the pot even more.

Darren Waller (TE – LV)
FantasyPros ECR: TE6

Waller was a massive disappointment this season relative to where he was drafted. He finished as the TE16 while only playing in 11 out of 18 games for the Raiders. Waller is nearing 30-years old, and while he does have some good years left, it might be time to start thinking about trading him. Waller regressed in targets, catches, and touchdowns, albeit mainly due to injury, but the point still stands. The tight end position is so scarce, it’s difficult to trade a player who demands a lot of targets on his team. While that may be the case, you can still get great value in return for him. Some players I would consider targeting are Pat Freiermuth, Dallas Goedert, or Dawson Knox plus a 1st or early 2nd round pick.
