Have you taken a look at the quarterback scoring leaders from Week 8? It’ll give you quite the chuckle. Mike White, Jimmy Garoppolo, Justin Fields, Geno Smith, Davis Mills and Cooper Rush all finished as QB1s in Week 8.
The randomness in fantasy football is what makes it great, even when it does make decisions difficult. With that being said, I’ll try to make your quarterback decisions a little easier with the Week 9 Primer.

Week 8 Recap
Mid-Range QB1s
- Joe Burrow: QB10 in Week 8
- Ryan Tannehill: QB7 in Week 8
- Daniel Jones: QB13 in Week 8
It was a pretty solid week for our mid-range shots, as two of the three fell inside QB1 range, with Jones barely missing the mark.
Streaming Options
- Carson Wentz: QB11 in Week 8
- Sam Darnold: QB23 in Week 8
- Teddy Bridgewater: QB22 in Week 8
Wentz delivered for us despite his two inexplicable interceptions that lost his team the game. The Panthers clearly have no trust in Sam Darnold, who’s just a disaster right now. And the Broncos offense is one of the more frustrating to watch in the league.
Week 9 Mid-Range Passers with QB1 Upside
Joe Burrow (QB7 ECR) vs. Cleveland
Denzel Ward is back for the Browns, which is huge. But Burrow should find success against a Browns secondary that’s struggled to contain high-powered offenses all season. The Browns have given up 20.9 fantasy points per game to opposing QBs this season, making Burrow a great play.
Kirk Cousins (QB10 ECR) at Baltimore
This is kind of disgusting, but it’s a tough week for mid-range passers. Cousins was awful last week against the Cowboys. But he gets a Ravens secondary that isn’t at full strength and has given up 18.5 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this year. Most recently, Joe Burrow shredded them for over 400 yards, and Minnesota has similar firepower with Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen and Dalvin Cook. In a game I expect to be high scoring, I’ll give Cousins a shot.
Week 9 Streaming Options
Tua Tagovailoa (QB12 ECR) vs. Houston
Tagovailoa has been pretty productive in his first three games back from injury, but was overwhelmed by a strong Bills defense. The Texans defense won’t present nearly as much of a challenge, as they’ve allowed 20.5 fantasy points per game to QBs this year. Tua put up good numbers in games against Atlanta and Jacksonville, and I’m expecting a strong performance this weekend.
Tyrod Taylor (QB24 ECR) at Miami
Thank heavens Taylor is back under center for the Texans, as I couldn’t watch any more of Davis Mills. Taylor returns to face a Dolphins secondary allowing the third-most fantasy points per game to opposing QBs. This Dolphins-Texans game could be a shootout.
Teddy Bridgewater (QB17 ECR) at Dallas
Bridgewater has generally let us down this season, but one thing he does well is protect the ball. That’s critical against a very opportunistic Cowboys defense that has been fairly generous to opposing quarterbacks this year. This Broncos offense has reputable pass catchers, they just prefer to be overly conservative. Maybe that changes this week.
Jordan Love (QB23 ECR) at Kansas City
How desperate are you? Desperate enough to start a kid making his first career start against a lousy defense? If so, Love is your guy, but only if you’re really low on options. We literally know nothing about him, so I’m mainly speculating on matchup. The Chiefs have given up the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing QBs. I’m guessing the Packers will be quite conservative with Love, but if you’re out of options, the matchup couldn’t be much better.
