Is D’Andre Swift Playing in Week 2? (Fantasy Football Injury Updates)

Lions RB D’Andre Swift was one of the most debated players of the fantasy football preseason. The second-year running back came out with a bang in Week 1 against the 49ers. Unfortunately, this week he’s dealing with a groin injury, similar to the ailment that limited him through training camp. So, is Swift going to suit up Week 2 against the Packers? Here’s the latest.

D’Andre Swift (groin) questionable after fully practicing on Saturday

Detroit Lions RB D’Andre Swift (groin) is questionable ahead of Monday night’s game against Green Bay despite being a full participant at Saturday’s practice, per the team’s injury report.

Fantasy Impact:

Swift caught eight receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown in a Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He also led Detroit in carries and targets, while Jamaal Williams (chest) saw a similar workload to finish one spot ahead of him as the RB4 in half-PPR formats. Continue monitoring Swift’s status ahead of Monday night’s game at Lambeau Field.

What the Experts are Saying

One of the concerns I had with D’Andre Swift heading into the season was the target share that was most likely heading his way. In my projections, I estimated that Goff would at least target his WRs a slight amount, but that was not the case in week one. Swift saw an absurd 19% target share in week one, which is among the likes of CMC, Kamara, etc. He was effective with this opportunity too and was able to cash in with a receiving touchdown on a beautiful catch-and-run play. We should still stay measured with our expectations for Swift in this offense, but it’s encouraging to see Goff feed him as much as he did. Swift can be viewed as a mid-range RB2 in week two. Jamaal Williams came out and performed well in his first game in a Lions uniform. Just like Swift, Williams saw a hefty target share and was able to make those targets count for fantasy football. We have the revenge game narrative here in this one and Williams should see a significant workload again. It’s hard to trust him as anything more than a high-end RB3 just yet, but if he sees 7+ targets again this week, we could well be on our way there.

Swift and Williams both had strong performances in Week 1, but it’s Swift’s usage that warrants attention. He played 63 snaps to Williams’ 32 – this after a report that Williams was going to be the leading man. Swift carried 11 times for 39 yards. He was targeted 11 times and had eight catches for 65 yards and a touchdown. That’s 24.4 PPR points – not a bad day at the office. Williams made the most of his lesser snap count, carrying nine times for 54 yards and a touchdown, and turning nine targets into eight catches for 56 yards and a touchdown. That’s 25.0 PPR points. Touché, Mr. Williams. There won’t be 36 touches for these two to divide every week, but there’s room for both to be fantasy assets.
