2021 NFL Draft Profile: WR Rondale Moore

It’s not easy to put yourself on the national radar as a true freshman, but Rondale Moore did just that in 2018. Moore was essentially unstoppable as he reeled in 114 receptions for 1,258 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s absolutely electric with the ball in his hands, and he consistently made plays when Purdue needed them the most.

Unfortunately, Moore has only played in seven games over the last two seasons due to injuries. Moore missed the majority of the 2019 season with a hamstring injury and was limited to only three games in 2020 due to an unspecified lower-body injury. When he’s on the field, though, he’s continued to show his athletic dominance that he put on full display in 2018.

Moore has the athleticism to succeed in the NFL, but the question now comes down to the role he’ll be asked to fill. At 5’7, 180lbs, can he fill a full-time slot role in the NFL? Or will he be asked to move around the formation as a gadget player? What does this mean for his fantasy football projection?

These questions are answered here in our scouting profile on Rondale Moore:

Skills Breakdown (out of 100)

Route Running (74): Runs a very limited route tree but excels with the ball in his hands. Will be asked to operate underneath in the NFL and live off end-arounds, jet sweeps, slants, and out routes.

Athleticism/Agility (80): Incredible athleticism and agility. Tremendous burst and an angle-buster.

Hands (75): Good hands. Nothing spectacular and does struggle with the occasional concentration drop, but nothing that would be an indication of a bigger issue.

Contested Catch Ability (70): Very few examples of contested catches due to his usage and being given the ball repeatedly behind the line of scrimmage.

Run After Catch Ability (83): Potentially the best RAC ability in this entire draft class. Has seen his production dip from his freshman season to now in this area but still has the traits to be unstoppable in the open field.

Release (73): Shifty enough at the LOS to beat press coverage when he is guarded but lives out of the slot or detached from the line of scrimmage.

Deep Ball Tracking (77): Good ability to track the ball over his shoulder and reel in tough catches.

Speed (82): Tremendous top-end speed when he finds the open field.

Projected Draft Range

For how valuable of a role Moore will fill for a creative NFL offense, he’s an early Day 2 player. However, with his injury history, do teams get scared off of spending that high of a pick on him? Regardless, expect Moore to go off the board somewhere on Day 2.

Ideal Fantasy Landing Spot

The Carolina Panthers just lost Curtis Samuel via free agency, and there’s a perfect replacement waiting for them in the NFL Draft. Moore can step right in and fill the role that Samuel was occupying for this offense with schemed touches behind the line of scrimmage or being delivered the ball deep downfield.

Fantasy Comparison

Moore is Curtis Samuel playing in Tyler Lockett’s body. Lockett is two inches taller but essentially the same weight. However, Moore is going to fill a role very similar to the one that Samuel has filled for the Panthers over the last several years.
