The game of football has changed over the years, moving towards a more pass-friendly approach. This has led to teams moving to 3WR base sets, with some teams running 4WR sets 20 percent of the time. This isn’t the same game that your parents watched where the third receiver barely came on the field. Because of that, wide receiver depth is more important, and you’re starting to see teams attack the position in the draft. We had 13 wide receivers drafted inside the top two rounds last year, which was more than ever before.
Will that happen again this year? It seems unlikely, as this year’s class is deep, but it is very top-heavy. There are three receivers who are certain to go in the first round, while there are another three who’ve received first-round buzz around the media. Here are my thoughts on the wide receivers who have entered the 2021 NFL Draft.
