Dan Harris’s 2021 Fantasy Baseball Rankings: Second Base

To the extent there is a “thin” position in fantasy (other than catcher), it’s second base. If you’ve been playing fantasy baseball for any length of time, you’re well aware of this irrefutable fact.

There isn’t all that much power to speak of. Speed is there, but not elite. Options you feel comfortable starting fall off the table quickly.

Perhaps because it’s a position with few stud performers and mostly middling production, I don’t focus on it much during my drafts. It’s not a position that I think is worth reaching on. Instead, I’m more than willing to shore up the rest of my lineup and spend a later pick on someone who can simply fill the space.

Because of that, unlike some other positions, I don’t have specific targets. I’m just as likely to end up with Ozzie Albies as I am Jeff McNeil or Andres Gimenez. More than anything else, second base is about letting the draft come to you and playing jazz.

Note: Position eligibility is determined by the sites that formulate our consensus ADP, so it can be quite loose at times. Don’t blame the messenger.
