Week 17 Waiver Wire Rankings

Waiver Wire Rankings powered by FantasyProsECR ™ – Expert Consensus Rankings

Q1. Who is your top waiver wire option of Week 17, and why?

I’ll go with Malcolm Brown considering the injuries to both Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson dealing with high-ankle sprains. The Cardinals are coming off a game in which they allowed Jeff Wilson to pile up 200-plus yards and a touchdown. The last time these two teams played was in Week 13, where the Rams running backs combined for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Brown should be a fine RB2 this week.

Malcolm Brown takes the top spot for me, but it’s almost by default. He has the only two things that really matter when you’re playing in Week 17: opportunity and motivation. The opportunity comes from both Darrell Henderson and Cam Akers dealing with ankle injuries and seemingly unlikely to play next week. The motivation comes from the fact that the Rams need to win to get into the playoffs. With Jared Goff likely out for this game and John Wolford in, the Rams are going to need to rely more on their running game, and that should mean a healthy dose of Brown. Arizona doesn’t have the easiest run defense, but we saw what Jeff Wilson was able to do. And, in Week 17, situation dictates value above all. Brown is the top choice.

After a dominant performance in Week 16, Gallup’s bounced back into the top-36 conversation. As he operates against the second-best corners, he’s got the talent to capitalize on his opportunity and deliver a huge performance for your fantasy roster. If you’re still playing in Week 17 and need a boom option for your lineup, Gallup should be at the top of your board.

Q2. Which notable waiver wire option for Week 17 was the most difficult to rank?

It’s probably AJ Dillon because we have no idea how the Packers will handle their running backs in Week 17. They still haven’t won the NFC’s top seed, so it’s likely we see them play Aaron Jones quite a bit, though Dillon may have earned a bigger role moving forward. The matchup against the Bears run defense isn’t a great one, though.
– Mike Tagliere (@MikeTagliereNFL)

Darrel Williams. Williams was clearly the superior back to Le’Veon Bell in Week 16, but what are we going to see in Week 17 against the Chargers? The Chiefs have nothing to play for, and with Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s questionable status for the playoffs, will Andy Reid want to actually rest Williams for the playoff run or Bell? In a game where the Chiefs have nothing to play for and with Reid having a history of resting starters, who you can start on the Chiefs, if anyone, is an open question.

AJ Dillon put together a solid performance on SNF, which will most likely lead to increased involvement in Week 17. However, it might not be enough to lead to top-30 production at the RB position with Aaron Jones still above him on the depth chart and potentially Jamaal Williams coming back.

Q3. For managers streaming a D/ST in Week 17, what readily available option (under 40%) should they target?

I’ll go with the Eagles, who will be at home against a Washington team that has severe quarterback issues. The Eagles pass rush has been very good this year, though they suffered a bit when Fletcher Cox suffered a stinger during the Week 16 loss to the Cowboys. He should be back for this game, and they should be able to get after whoever is under center for the Football Team.
– Mike Tagliere (@MikeTagliereNFL)

This is where situation matters most. The Chargers taking on a Kansas City team playing backups is probably the top option. The Chargers have been playing “well” lately and their defense has been forcing turnovers with six interceptions in their last three games. With the Chiefs trying to remain healthy above all, Los Angeles should be able to hold the opposing offense in check and make some big plays.
– Dan Harris (@danharris80)

Dallas’ defense has actually strung together three solid performances recently and they get to take on the anemic Giants offense in Week 17. They’re not a top-5 option for Week 17, but they can certainly be played if you’re in a pinch.
