Quarterback
Alex Smith (WAS): $6,600 vs. CIN
Smith is coming off two straight 300-yard games, including a career-high 390 yards last week. He gets the Bengals defense that is giving up the seventh-most points to quarterbacks this season. At $6,600, he is the cheapest starting quarterback this week. He may not get 300-plus yards again this week, but you hope he is able to throw a few touchdowns, something he was unable to do last week.
Running Back
Kalen Ballage (LAC): $5,800 vs. NYJ
Ballage has had 42 opportunities (carries plus targets) in the last two weeks. The coach came out and gave Ballage the vote of confidence and named him the ‘primary back’. The Jets give up the seventh-most fantasy points to running backs, and if we want to go down narrative-street, this will be his second-straight week in a”revenge-game”, having just played his other former team, the Dolphins, last week.
J.D. McKissic (WAS): $5,600 vs. CIN
Last week in this very column I said no Washington player all season had more targets than McKissic’s 14 in Week 9. In a “hold my beer” moment, he went out and had 15 targets in Week 10. Alex Smith is known for his check-downs, and McKissic is making a living off them.
Wide Receiver
CeeDee Lamb (DAL): $5,800 MIN
Andy Dalton returns to the starting lineup this week, and while he isn’t exactly Dak Prescott, he is good enough to help the fantasy value of the Dallas starting receivers. In the only full game Dalton played this season — against the Cardinals — Lamb had 11 targets, seven catches, and 64 yards. He gets a plus matchup with the Vikings who give up the fifth-most fantasy points to wide receivers.
Jakeem Grant (MIA): $4,600 @ DEN
I had Grant in this column last week and he went out and had four catches for 43 yards and a touchdown. FanDuel apparently isn’t buying it because they didn’t raise his price at all. The Broncos are a tough matchup, but his price tag is just too juicy to ignore.
Tight End
Irv Smith Jr. (MIN): $5,100 vs. DAL
Smith Jr. had a two catch, two-touchdown game a few weeks ago before missing a game with a groin injury. He has been limited all week in practice, so be sure to check his availability on Sunday, but Kirk Cousins is looking his way in the red zone and in the end zone. The Cowboys don’t give up a lot of fantasy points to tight ends, but some of that is because they are so bad at defending everything else.
Defense
Atlanta Falcons: $3,200 @ NO
Two words on why the Falcons are a value defense this week. Jameis Winston. His turnovers are legendary, and the Falcons, despite ranking in the bottom third of every defensive category, have played much better of late. Bold prediction, Falcons get a pick-six in this game.
