We’ve now reached the halfway point of the fantasy football season! Are you prepared and ready to make your tough lineup decisions?
If not, don’t stress out about it. I’m here with my quick-hitting thoughts to help you get ready for your fantasy matchups heading into week eight! If you’d like a little bit more in-depth studying, you can also find my weekly rankings here or my weekly fantasy projections article with projections and notes for every fantasy relevant player in the NFL here.
Here are some last-minute quick-hit items designed to help you live your best fantasy life in Week 8:
5 Players I Like More Than ECR
Jamaal Williams: I fully expect Williams’ ranking to rise by the time we get to kickoff, but I have him significantly higher than ECR right now. Williams lands at RB9 in my weekly rankings and RB17 in ECR.
David Montgomery: I fully expect Montgomery to be in this section every week of the cheat sheet. He’s simply bringing too safe of a floor with his work in the receiving game and his overall touches. Montgomery is RB20 in ECR currently and he is RB13 in my rankings.
Stefon Diggs: It’s not easy to trust Diggs all the way up at WR5, which is where I have him right now, but I’m projecting this offense to get back on track in week eight. Diggs is seeing too many targets to ignore and I expect those to start hitting again. His ECR is WR13.
Diontae Johnson: I was all on board with plugging Johnson into your starting lineup last week and it certainly paid off. This week, ECR seems to be scared off by the matchup against the Ravens defense, but I still believe he’s a strong start. He’s WR16 in my rankings and WR23 in ECR.
Trey Burton: There’s no denying Burton’s involvement in this offense now. Simply based on the TE landscape, and Burton’s projected workload, he lands at TE11 in my weekly rankings. Meanwhile, ECR has him at TE17.
5 Players I Like Less Than ECR
Ezekiel Elliott: This pains me a lot, but it’s hard to view Zeke as a must-start option now. This offense is not going anywhere and they now have an extremely tough matchup on Sunday Night Football. Oh, and not to mention, Ben DiNucci will be their starting QB this week. Zeke could see volume in this game, but he’s not gonna have much room to run here. Zeke sits at RB19 in my weekly rankings right now and his ECR is RB8.
Devin Singletary: What has Singletary done recently for ECR to rank him as a top-24 RB right now? I’m not confident in Singletary and I believe that he’s in the process of losing this job to Zack Moss. Singletary sits at RB33 in my weekly rankings.
Tyreek Hill: Don’t get me wrong, I like Hill this week and have him at WR7. However, ECR has him all the way up at WR2 and I just don’t see the path for that to take place. The Chiefs are favored by 19.5 points, which means that the Chiefs are going to be able to rely on their run game for the entire game. If Hill doesn’t score one of the early touchdowns, he may end this game with only a handful of targets.
T.J. Hockenson: Hockenson has been one of the most consistent TEs recently, but he gets a very tough matchup here against the Colts defense that is currently suffocating opposing TEs. Hockenson’s going to have to score in this matchup to finish as a top-8 option, which is where his ECR is, but I just don’t see that happening. He lands at TE14 in my rankings.
Mike Gesicki: Gesicki has been the definition of inconsistent this season. With the unknowns of a new QB, there’s no way you should feel confident plugging Gesicki into your starting lineup. His ECR is TE14, which is in the streaming consideration, and I have him all the way down at TE20.
Desperation Pickups
Kendrick Bourne: If you’re in need of a solid WR this week, Bourne has an excellent chance of finding the end zone against a terrible Seahawks secondary.
Scotty Miller: Assuming that Miller’s good to go from an injury perspective, which I believe that he is, then he belongs in your starting lineup as a low-end WR3. He’s still available on plenty of waiver wires.
Irv Smith: If you need a TE pickup, Smith is somehow still barely rostered in Yahoo leagues. He’s a solid streaming option this week in a game that should see Minnesota throwing the ball a ridiculous amount.
Braxton Berrios: With Crowder out, Berrios should see plenty of targets in a game that the Jets are going to be trailing from kickoff.
Lamical Perine: Frank Gore is questionable for this game, but even if he does play, Perine should see enough work out of the backfield as a receiver to be a fine fill-in option for your lineup.
5 Receiver/Cornerback Matchups to Watch
Stefon Diggs/Stephon Gilmore: Diggs is one of the best route-runners in the NFL. Gilmore’s one of the elite shutdown corners in the NFL. This is a matchup worth watching.
Tyler Boyd/Chris Jackson: Boyd has a clear advantage here over the Titans slot corner. Will the Bengals choose to exploit it?
Rashard Higgins/Trayvon Mullen: Higgins will be stepping in for OBJ now. Can he succeed against Mullen and be a fine fantasy start?
Keenan Allen/Bryce Callahan: With the way Justin Herbert has been peppering Allen with targets, Allen should have an elite fantasy day. Will Callahan be able to slow him down?
Adam Thielen/Jaire Alexander: Alexander is highly regarded at PFF as one of the league’s elite corners. He’s going up against one of the league’s best WRs now though…will he be able to contain him?
5 Important Things I Learned This Week
Since Tarik Cohen‘s injury, David Montgomery has been the RB16 in all of fantasy football.
Stay away from the Rams TEs…unless one of them misses the game with an injury. Then fire up the other one as a low-end TE1.
The Vikings are not going to have an answer for Davante Adams on Sunday.
Joe Burrow is on pace for 311 Fantasy Points, which would’ve been good enough to finish as the QB5 last year.
DK Metcalf leads the NFL in Yards Per Reception at 21.6. Justin Jefferson is second with 19.2 YPR.
5 Bold Predictions For Week 8
Ezekiel Elliott finishes outside the top-25 RBs.
Davante Adams finishes as the WR1 this week by a 10-point margin.
Joe Burrow finishes as a top-5 QB.
Lamar Jackson finishes outside the top-12 QBs.
Tyler Boyd finishes as a top-10 WR.
