FanDuel NFL Value Plays: Week 4 (2020)

FanDuel NFL Value Plays: Week 4 (2020)

This piece is part of our article program that features quality content from experts exclusively at FantasyPros. For more insight from Geoff, head over to GoingFor2.com.

We are at the quarter mark of the season, and we just had our first COVID-related postponement, as the Steelers and Titans won’t play in Week 4. But, even with that game off the slate, there are still a ton of games in which to find value, so let’s get to it…

Quarterbacks

Ryan Fitzpatrick (MIA): $7,100 vs. SEA
The famous Legion of Boom is no more, in fact, it’s quite the opposite. Not only are the Seahawks the worst secondary in the league through three games, but they are also the worst secondary of all-time through three games. No team since at least 1950 (there are no official stats pre-1950) has allowed more passing yards (1,292) than the Seahawks have in their first three games. They are giving up 430.7 yards per game, and that number isn’t skewed by one bad game either — they’ve been bad in all three.

They gave up 434 yards to Matt Ryan, 397 to Cam Newton, and 461 to Dak Prescott last week. The fact they are 3-0 is a testament to how well Russell Wilson is playing. I fully expect the Seahawks to be in the lead for most of this game, leaving Fitzpatrick to air it out a ton.

Running Backs

Gus Edwards (BAL): $4,600 at WAS
Both of my value running backs this week are complete shots in the dark. Edwards has been the Ravens “closer” this season, coming in to kill the clock when they have a big lead. I expect the Ravens to be up huge by the start of the fourth quarter, meaning Edwards would get all the garbage-time carries.

Artavis Pierce (CHI): $4,500 vs. IND
Pierce was signed this week when Tarik Cohen was ruled out for the rest of the season. I have no idea how the Bears plan to use him — or if they plan to use him at all — but at $4,500, he could fall into the endzone a couple of times from one yard out and hit value.

Wide Receivers

Hunter Renfrow (LV): $5,300 vs. BUF
Mr. Last Man Standing in the Las Vegas receiving corps has a big opportunity for fantasy points in this game. The Bills have not been the defense they were in 2019, as they’re giving up 41.6 FFPG to wide receivers this season — only six teams are giving up more. Both Bryan Edwards and Henry Ruggs will not play in this game, so I would expect to see a ton of Renfrow and tight end Darren Waller.

N’Keal Harry (NE): $5,300 at KC
It’s hard to fault Harry for his lack of fantasy production thus far. Quarterback Cam Newton had fewer than 200 yards passing in Weeks 1 and 3. However, the Week 2 game against the Seahawks saw him throw for nearly 400 yards, and Harry had 12 targets in that game. If Newton hadn’t been running in the one-yard touchdowns in that game, Harry may have gotten a touchdown and had an even bigger game.

There is no doubt that Newton and the Patriots are going to be passing a ton against the Chiefs. I think the gameplan will be to run the ball, control the clock, and keep the Chiefs’ offense off the field — but that is easier said than done. Harry could see double-digit targets in this, and he might get his first touchdown of the season.

Tight Ends

Austin Hooper (CLE): $5,100 at DAL
I know, I know, he hasn’t been good this season. Okay, that might be too kind. He has been downright terrible this season. But, so has the Cowboys defense. They are bottom 10 in points allowed to the tight end position, giving up 16.5 points per game. The Cowboys offense will put up points forcing the Browns to score as well. Hooper should have his best game of 2020.

Defense

Cardinals D/ST (ARI): $3,800 at Carolina
There aren’t any “super cheap” defenses I like this week, so the closest thing to a cheap defense is the Cardinals against the Christian McCaffery-less Panthers. The Cardinals have 11 sacks through three games, which is about 3.5 sacks per game, and the Panthers give up a shade under three sacks per game. At $3,800, the Cardinals are a good option this week.
