Early Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 7 (2020 Fantasy Football)

Good evening, folks! We’ve made it through the bulk of Week  action, and it’s that most wonderful time of the evening once again. Sunday night gives fantasy owners time to reflect on the week’s triumphs or losses and take stock of their roster heading into the new week. It’s a time for reflection and a time to assess potential waiver wire options. Each week, I’ll be highlighting a handful of low-rostered options you should consider when making waiver wire claims. Each player’s upcoming three-game schedule will be noted, including strength of matchup. This is particularly helpful if you need a streaming option or a temporary replacement to get you through the tough times.

In Week 6, we were treated to some surprisingly close and entertaining games, as Houston and Tennessee went to overtime, Cincy and Indy traded scores all afternoon, and Philly came within a two-point conversion of completing a comeback against Baltimore. Derrick Henry had a monster performance and scored the game-winning touchdown for Tennessee, and Julio Jones was tremendous in his return to the field.

Unfortunately, the injury bug was alive and well this week, as Miles Sanders, Zach Ertz, Mark Ingram, and Jonnu Smith exited their respective games early and did not return. Joe Mixon missed part of his game but was able to finish the game. This week, we’ve got a lot of great adds, so let’s quit the chatter and get right to it!

Best of luck in all of your leagues moving forward! If you’ve got any questions about the week’s waiver wire options or anything fantasy football, hit me up on Twitter @ZaktheMonster.

Note: Most players are less than 30% rostered in Yahoo leagues.

Wide Receiver

Travis Fulgham (PHI): 30% rostered

WEEK 7 WEEK 8 WEEK 9
NYG DAL BYE

__________

Fulgham delivered again in Week 6, and he’s now amassed an 18/274/3 receiving line over the last three weeks. Yeah, that’s pretty impressive. If/when DeSean Jackson or Alshon Jeffery finally take the field, Fulgham should continue to have a role in Philly’s offense. He’s drawn a ridiculous 23 targets over the last two weeks, and that type of production won’t just evaporate into thin air.

Keelan Cole (JAC): 29% rostered

WEEK 7 WEEK 8 WEEK 9
@LAC BYE HOU

__________

Cole finally erupted in Week 6, getting loose on Detroit for 143 yards on six catches. Through six games, the wideout has posted a 27/362/3 line that has earned him weekly flex consideration. D.J. Chark certainly hasn’t lived up to his role as Jacksonville’s “No. 1” receiver, and Cole should be a priority add if you need help at the position.

Tim Patrick (DEN): 18% rostered

WEEK 7 WEEK 8 WEEK 9
KC LAC ATL

__________

Patrick went off for his second straight 100-yard game in Sunday’s victory over New England, and he’s established himself as a reliable option in Denver’s passing game. His role may decrease when KJ Hamler and Noah Fant return to the lineup, but Patrick’s strong play has likely earned him a regular role moving forward.

James Washington (PIT): 10% rostered

WEEK 7 WEEK 8 WEEK 9
@TEN @BAL @DAL

__________

With Diontae Johnson out of action, Washington led Pittsburgh in targets against Cleveland, posting a 4/68/1 line on seven targets in the big divisional victory. Last week’s breakout, Chase Claypool, led the team in yards and scored on a run, but with JuJu Smith-Schuster becoming unplayable, Washington may be next to step up in the offense. He’s worth a look off the waiver wire.

Tight Ends

Trey Burton (IND): 20% rostered

WEEK 7 WEEK 8 WEEK 9
BYE @DET BAL

__________

It was the breakout game that had been building for weeks. Burton scored twice in Week 6 – once as a runner on a direct snap, and one as he was cutting across the middle of the end zone. He’s become a favorite of Philip Rivers, and with Mo Alie-Cox dealing with health issues, Burton’s place as Indy’s TE1 seems secure. If you’re looking for help at the position for the rest of the season, look no further than Burton.

Logan Thomas (WAS): 15% rostered

WEEK 7 WEEK 8 WEEK 9
DAL BYE NYG

__________

Thomas came down with his first touchdown since Week 1 and finished the day with a 3/42/1 receiving line in the loss to New York. Thomas has been largely an afterthought in the offense as of late, though his target share was favorable to open the season. It’s possible he gets more involved in a plus matchup against Dallas in Week 7, and he’s worth adding if you’re hurting at TE.

Anthony Firkser (TEN): 0% rostered

WEEK 7 WEEK 8 WEEK 9
PIT @CIN CHI

__________

Firkser finished the Week 6 victory over Houston with an 8/113/1 receiving line … wait, did I type that correctly? Surprisingly, this was Firkser’s day after Jonnu Smith was forced out of the game early due to an ankle injury. Tennessee’s offense is rolling right now, and Firkser could absolutely be a steady streamer if Smith is forced to miss time.

Running Back

Gus Edwards (BAL): 3% rostered

WEEK 7 WEEK 8 WEEK 9
BYE vs. PIT @IND

__________

Mark Ingram was forced out of Sunday’s win over Philly due to an ankle injury, and it was Edwards – not J.K. Dobbins – who saw the biggest uptick in usage (14-9 carry advantage). Playing for one of the most efficient and run-heavy offenses in the NFL, Edwards is a strong add this week.

Boston Scott (PHI): 13% rostered

WEEK 7 WEEK 8 WEEK 9
NYG DAL BYE

__________

Miles Sanders left the game early due to a knee injury and didn’t return. Scott is the next man up in the backfield, and while he’ll split work with Corey Clement (worth an add in deeper leagues), he has some flex appeal if Sanders is forced to miss any time. Philly plays on Thursday night against the Giants, so Sanders will have just a few days to get healthy ahead of that one.

Giovani Bernard (CIN): 6% rostered

WEEK 7 WEEK 8 WEEK 9
CLE TEN BYE

__________

Bernard isn’t a priority add this week, but if you have room on your bench, he should be picked up. The mustachioed back saw 11 touches in Week 6 and scored a rushing touchdown in the process. Joe Mixon left the game briefly with a foot injury, and though he returned, Bernard’s status as a high-end handcuff shouldn’t be ignored.

Quarterback

Andy Dalton (DAL): 31% rostered

WEEK 7 WEEK 8 WEEK 9
@WAS @PHI PIT

__________

This is written before Dalton’s first start as a Cowboy (MNF against the Cardinals), but he needs to be picked up. Dalton is only rostered in 31% of leagues right now and should provide help to those in need of a QB for the long haul. Don’t forget how competent he was in Cincinnati, and he never had this strong of a pass-catching arsenal at his disposal.

Case Keenum (CLE): 0% rostered

WEEK 7 WEEK 8 WEEK 9
@CIN LV BYE

__________

Watching Pittsburgh obliterate Cleveland once again, I was reminded of the Grinch Who Stole Christmas when Baker Mayfield was taken out of the game.

Whatever the reason
His health or his play
He was sent to the bench
And didn’t finish the day

Of course, we’re not sure what was going on with Mayfield, but there was no point keeping him in the game when the team was down 31-7 in the third quarter and he was stinking up the joint. Cleveland has largely relied on an excellent running game and opportunistic defense to get to 4-2, and Mayfield hasn’t looked great this year. Keenum is a pickup for deeper leagues or those that use 2QB, but he’s worth mentioning nonetheless.

D/ST

Philadelphia Eagles: 30% rostered

WEEK 7 WEEK 8 WEEK 9
NYG DAL BYE

__________

This isn’t a sexy pickup, but any defense facing Daniel Jones and the Giants is in the streaming conversation. Grab Philly off the waiver wire, and play with confidence in Week 7.
