Value Plays

Point Guard

NAME (TEAM) OPPONENT PRICE MATCHUP RISK
Kemba Walker (BOS) PHI $6,900 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Low
Seth Curry (DAL) LAC $4,400 ⭐⭐⭐ Medium
Shake Milton (PHI) BOS $3,900 ⭐⭐⭐ Medium

Walker played well in his first official postseason game with the Celtics. He scored 19 points and had five assists for the Celtics, and with Gordon Hayward injured, his role just increased with the team. Versus the 76ers, Walker is head over heels better than Shake Milton and Josh Richardson, and it’s only a matter of time before we see a breakout game.

Curry scored 14 points and added three assists in the opening playoff game. Curry played 33 minutes for the Mavs, and in his five regular-season bubble games, he only surpassed 30 minutes once. His role depends on whether or not Tim Hardaway plays well, but versus the Clippers’ top-scoring bench, he’s a player to watch out for.

Shake Milton’s production with the 76ers must increase if they’re trying to make it to the next round. It’s no secret that without Ben Simmons, Philly lacks scorers and play-makers. Role players like Milton and Alec Burks are solid streams as they can go off any given game for a low price.

Shooting Guard

NAME (TEAM) OPPONENT PRICE MATCHUP RISK
Fred VanVleet (TOR) BKN $7,700 ⭐⭐⭐ Low
Marcus Smart (BOS) PHI $5,600 ⭐⭐ Low
Jordan Clarkson (UTA) DEN $5,100 ⭐⭐⭐ Medium

Fred VanVleet erupted for 30 points, 11 assists, and two rebounds in 39 minutes on 11-of-15 shots (73.3%) versus the Nets. He was the leading catalyst for the Raptors, and on the regular season, he averages 26.7 points, 6.0 assists, and 2.7 rebounds in three games. His price tag could be higher headed into game two.

Marcus Smart is another Celtic who will see an increase in minutes and production with Hayward’s absence. In his three regular-season games versus the 76ers this season, he averaged 14.7 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.0 rebounds in 32.7 minutes. He should see far more minutes against a weak backcourt in Philadelphia and can outproduce Waker on some nights.

Jordan Clarkson is the key player off the Jazz bench, and with the way he’s been playing in the bubble, he could easily slide into the starting lineup. Yet, he remains coming off the bench and contributed 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists in game one. He’s a viable option to get 20 points any night, but he won’t offer you much more outside of scoring. His seven rebounds and assists were the most since July 30.

Small Forward

NAME (TEAM) OPPONENT PRICE MATCHUP RISK
Jaylen Brown (BOS) PHI $7,000 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Low
Dorian Finney-Smith (DAL) LAC $4,400 ⭐⭐ High
Matisse Thybulle (PHI) BOS $3,900 ⭐⭐⭐ High

Jaylen Brown was on fire versus the 76ers. He recorded 29 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals in the series’s opening game. Brown and Jayson Tatum looked at their best, which is scary for opponents, and no one could guard both of them. They’re both worth having in DFS as they’re going to take over games without Hayward in the lineup and Walker finding his groove.

Dorian Finney-Smtih recorded 32 minutes in his last game and had nine points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. He’s one of the critical role players for the Mavericks, and a guy like him or Curry are deep stashes but worth a play if you’re duo stacking or playing mostly star players. He posted two double-doubles in the regular-season bubble and has potential earning him a two-star rating.

Matisse Thybulle’s role has increased, and he almost earned a start in game one to lock up Tatum, but the 76ers opted to start Al Horford. His role on the bench is still worthy in DFS, but he’s a risky play as he’s either a boom or bust. He only scored five points and grabbed four boards in 33 minutes in game one, but now that he’s got the rust off his first-ever postseason game, look for him to get more involved in game two.

Power Forward

NAME (TEAM) OPPONENT PRICE MATCHUP RISK
Serge Ibaka (TOR) BKN $5,800 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Low
Marcus Morris (LAC) DAL $4,700 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Medium
Maxi Kleber (DAL) LAC $3,900 ⭐⭐⭐ High

Serge Ibaka would have been the talk of the game if it wasn’t for VanVleet’s career day. Ibaka recorded 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and one block in 26 minutes. The Nets are one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to defending big man, specifically the center position, and we saw Marc Gasol eat up too. Ibaka could be worth a play again, but Pascal Siakam will probably post better numbers than Ibaka in the second game.

Marcus Morris is another important player off that Clippers top-ranked bench. In three regular-season games, Morris is averaging 21.7 points and 6.3 rebounds versus the Mavericks. In the first game of the series, he had 19 points and six rebounds over 32 minutes on 8-of-13 (61.5%) shooting. The Mavericks play a bit of a small-ball lineup with Porzingis at the center position, so Morris should stay relevant in this series.

Maxi Kleber didn’t impress anyone in game one with three points and six rebounds, but there was one positive. He shot five three-point attempts, and while he only made one, he’s going to need to keep that rate up to stay relevant in DFS. Boban Marjanovic played more than expected last game, taking away from Kleber’s production, but that shouldn’t last.

Center

NAME (TEAM) OPPONENT PRICE MATCHUP RISK
Montrezl Harrell (LAC) DAL $5,000 ⭐⭐⭐ Medium
Marc Gasol (TOR) BKN $4,500 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Medium
Boban Marjanovic (DAL) LAC $3,700 ⭐⭐⭐ High

Montrezl Harrell only played 15 minutes in the first game with the Clippers since March, but he’s expected to play more in game two. Harrell is a spark-plug off the bench, and with Porzingis likely to play more in game two and less Marjanovic, he should make more of an impact.

Marc Gasol played well in another all-around effort for the Raptors. Gasol scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds in just 21 minutes of action. Game two should be closer and you can expect Gasol to do more of the same, and maybe add to his 3.3 regular-season assist average.

Marjanovic is a deep-dive and a risky play, but it is easy for him to score and get boards. Sometimes you wonder why he doesn’t get more minutes, but if you’re down to less than $4,000 in salary and have one spot left, he’s one of the guys on your radar.

5 Studs Worth Their Salary

  • Joel Embiid (PHI) $9,300: Embiid recorded 26 points and 16 rebounds in game one, and he’s being leaned heavily without Ben Simmons. They were a different team when he wasn’t on the floor, and I expect the 76ers to let him attempt to go for 30 points every night.
  • Jayson Tatum (BOS) $8,700: Tatum has been eating the past eight games, and his last performance was one of his best. He totaled 32 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks in 41 minutes.
  • Michael Porter Jr. (DEN) $6,700: MPJ started the first half on fire for the Nuggets, but as Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray got going, his usage went to the backburner. Look for him to be more involved in game two as Jokic and Murray most likely won’t combine for 65 points.
  • Donovan Mitchell (UTA) $8,200: Mitchell set a Jazz record with 57 points, and he only scored five points in overtime. Let’s see how he follows up that career-performance in game two.
  • Luka Doncic (DAL) $10,500: Doncic was another record-setter as he had 42 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in game one. His first postseason performance lived up to the hype, and the rest of the series should too.

5 Notable Players to Fade

  •  Caris LeVert (BKN) $8,400: LeVert is going to struggle scoring versus the Raptors, and that was evident in game one, but 15 assists and seven rebounds are hard to ignore. I expect at least two of those three stat categories to drop drastically in game two.
  • Jarrett Allen (BKN) $7,200: Allen had 15 points and 12 rebounds playing against the Raptors second-unit, but when the starters were in, he wasn’t as productive. It’s only a matter of time before the Toronto bigs are too much to handle for Allen and the Nets.
  • Al Horford (PHI) $5,500: Horford is going for revenge playing his former Celtics squad, but six points, seven rebounds, and six assists won’t get it done. It was a tremendous all-around game, but Horford isn’t going to have breakout games alongside Embiid.
  • Patrick Beverley (LAC) $4,300: Patrick Beverley offensively, didn’t look good in game one. He scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds but shot five three-point attempts if he’s going to be shooting at that volume from in-depth, Reggie Jackson or Landry Shamet or worth looks before him.
  • Daniel Theis (BOS) $5,000: He looked a bit overmatched with guarding Embiid, Horford, and the rest of the 76ers’ bigs. To no surprise, he was limited to nine points, three rebounds, and three assists.
