DraftKings DFS NBA Strategy Advice: Tuesday (8/4)

Another day, another slate of NBA action! Games begin at 1:30PM (BKN @ MIL) and run until 9:00PM (HOU @ POR), so be aware of start times as you set your lineups and remember to take advantage of late-swap strategy. Strategy today involves looking for value among the Nets and Bucks, stacking players from the Rockets and Blazers, and rostering players who are a bit underpriced given their upside. Let’s get to it!

Value Plays

Point Guard

• Chiozza should be in the starting lineup for Brooklyn tonight with a slew of injuries/inactives, and he represents a nice value at just $5.4K. This team is depleted arguably more than any other in basketball right now, so he should be looking at plenty of minutes. On the opposite side of the game, George Hill will be coming off the bench, but he’s averaged 27.5 minutes and 19.0 DK points per game over his last two. Milwaukee should wrap this one up pretty quickly, setting the stage for additional run for Hill.

Shooting Guard

• Johnson is a riskier play tonight, particularly given that his price has jumped from $3.2K on Sunday to $6.6K tonight. That price might scare some folks off, but the minutes and usage should be available to warrant the elevated cost. With the Nets trotting out a sorely-depleted lineup, Johnson should have his number called early and often. Bogdanovic has averaged 31.5 minutes and just under 32 DK points in his last two, and at just $5.2K, he should provide plenty of value.

Small Forward

• Across his last two games, House has scored 34.3 and 24.5 DK points, respectively. With Eric Gordon out of action, House should continue to see plenty of run at forward. Tuesday’s projected high-scoring tilt with Portland should be a boon to his value. Shamet is a tournament play because of the risk he carries, but Phoenix has allowed opponents to shoot 36.5% from three this season, and there’s a chance for Shamet to take advantage. The matchup with Phoenix is friendly, and the Clippers continue to lack depth with Lou Williams out and Patrick Beverly on a pitch-count. Butler comes in as the final value here because of his price. At $7.2K, the upside is too much to ignore.

Power Forward

• I’ll gladly take the stack of Melo and Collins here, as Houston’s small-ball lineup and fast-paced offense set the stage for a lot of scoring. Collins carries risk because of the long injury layoff he had, but he’s averaged 32 minutes of action in two restart games and looked solid when on the court. Saric is a nice play tonight facing the interior defense of the Clippers, who will still be without Montrezl Harrell. He’ll likely see minutes in the mid to high-20’s, but he’s delivered just north of 1 DK point per minute in two restart contests and has a higher ceiling.

Center

• Just like Saric above, Ayton should be able to have his way with Los Angeles’ frontcourt, and the big man is a big value at just $7.5K given his 50-point upside. Facing Ayton will be Ivica Zubac who will continue to start for the Clippers while Montrezl Harrell is out. As long as Zubac is in the starting lineup and Harrell isn’t playing, he’s got to warrant consideration as a money-saver in lineups. Finally, Lopez will be facing off against his former team in what will surely be a one-sided affair. He may see his minutes drop a little if the game gets too ugly, but there’s no reason to fade him at a very attractive $5.7K price tag.

5 Notable Players to Fade

• T.J. Warren (IND) $8,000: After his career-best 53-point eruption, Warren’s price has sky-rocketed to $8K. No thanks. He should stay involved as a primary scorer for the time being, but another 50-burger? I’m not banking on that at this price.
• Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL) $10,900: He’ll be facing one of the most depleted teams in the league in Brooklyn, and there’s real risk of a blowout. If (when) the game gets out of hand early, Giannis will likely hit the bench and take a breather, or he may take it easy from the jump given the lack of competition. Either way, your money’s better spent elsewhere.
• Hassan Whiteside (POR) $5,000: Even at this depreciated price, Whiteside isn’t worth it. He’s been relegated to the bench, and unless he’s getting more than 17 minutes a game, he’s an easy fade.
• Devin Booker (PHO) $8,400: The Clippers’ backcourt defense is solid, and the offense should run more through DeAndre Ayton and the frontcourt. There are better plays for this price on tonight’s slate.
• Luka Doncic (DAL) $10,700: He’s averaged a triple-double in his first two restart games, but there are better values on tonight’s slate.

5 Studs Worth Their Salary

• James Harden (HOU) $11,300: Harden will get to tee off against the weak Trail Blazers defense in what should be a shootout.
• Damian Lillard (POR) $9,900: See above
• Jusuf Nurkic (POR) $8,500: Stacking players from the Houston/Portland game isn’t a bad idea, and Nurkic should be a popular play. He’s back in the starting lineup against the small-ball Rockets. He should have his way on Tuesday.
• Kristaps Porzingis (DAL) $9,000: KP has been phenomenal in two restart games, averaging just over 61 DK points in that span. Despite the big games, his price has only gone up by $400 dollars. That’s criminal.
• Paul George (LAC) $8,100: George continues to impress, and his salary hasn’t reflected that yet. He’s a full thousand dollars cheaper than Kawhi Leonard, so take advantage of the savings while you can.
