Fantasy Baseball Trade Value Chart (Week 2)

It’s okay to lose to your opponent. Must not lose to fear.

Every time I begin to write an article or am about to give an opinion on a podcast, a random line or scene from a movie or a television show pops into my head. No, I don’t know why. But it does.

So, when I started thinking of how to describe my advice on approaching trades, Mr. Miyagi’s sage advice to Daniel in Karate Kid III kept coming to mind.

More than ever this year, it’s ok if you struggle in your fantasy baseball league. With the COVID-19 situation already derailing several games this week and affecting nearly half of the Marlins’ roster, and with pitchers dealing with injuries after quickly ramping up in summer camp, you’ll have plenty of excuses if you have a rough fantasy season.

It’s ok to lose to your opponent. But you must not lose to fear.

Time is short. Even if baseball is able to forge ahead despite the current setbacks, a 60-game season is nothing. It’s the blink of an eye.

You have to make hard choices, even if it means executing trades you’d never ordinarily consider during the first week of the season. You have to be bold in the trade market. You can’t lose to fear this season.

As you’ll see in the trade chart, there’s plenty of movement. The vast majority of it is based on injury news, which changes on a moment-to-moment basis. I’m not yet ready to re-evaluate entirely my outlooks on players who are off to slow or fast starts, though I admit that I’m a bit quicker to react on pitchers who were particularly impressive or unimpressive.

Again, I’ll remind you that all trades are necessarily dependent on your roster construction and particular need. But, use the trade chart as a general guideline to make sure your offers are in the right range.
