Yes, it is very very early to be posting this, I’m aware and I agree. But you see, I’ve seen this requested left and right and so since so many of you are apparently degenerates, I’ll feed your hunger. After all, what else is there to do at this point without live sports besides dreaming on when they’ll eventually return. We will get to the full rankings at the end, but first, let’s take a pitstop and look at some late-round targets that you can use just for Week 1 before moving on to the next one-week asset in Week 2. These will, of course, be primarily D/STs, tight ends and quarterbacks. And no, I’m not quite crazy enough to write about kicking streamers in May, you nuts!

D/ST Streamers
Philadelphia Eagles (@ WAS)
Like most of the players highlighted in this article, the Eagles defense will either be drafted very late in most leagues or not at all. As of now, Philly is the #13 D/ST in ECR which puts them right on the fence. Frankly, though, there are only three defenses I’d draft over them (PIT, SF and NE in that order). It isn’t as though the Eagles have a world-beating defense this year but rather, their Week 1 (and 2 vs LAR) matchups are so good that they’ll return more value than other D/ST1s who are fringe-startable in Week 1. The position is so volatile that you can’t waste draft capital on a fantasy asset that is historically more likely to finish outside the top 12 D/STs than within the top 5. Take the Eagles against Dwayne Haskins (then Jared Goff), celebrate double-digit fantasy points and move onto the next one-hit-wonder in Week 3.
- Dallas Cowboys (@ LAR)
- Indianapolis Colts (@ JAC)
- New York Jets (@ BUF)
- Detroit Lions (vs CHI)
Tight End Streamers
Noah Fant (DEN vs TEN)
While the Titans have a great defense overall, they struggled to contain pass catchers over the middle of the field and ended up as a bottom-five unit against the tight end position last year. Fant has some seasonal upside but is primarily just a Week 1 streamer. He carries an ADP of TE13 so he should be available in the closing rounds of your draft. You can snag him for this quality Week 1 matchup before dumping him before three tough matches in the following four weeks at Pittsburgh, at Jamal Adams and the Jets then at New England.
- Hayden Hurst (ATL vs SEA)
- Dallas Goedert (PHI @ WAS)
- Jack Doyle (IND @ JAC)
- Eric Ebron (PIT @ NYG)
Quarterback Streamers
Tyrod Taylor (LAC @ CIN)
If I miss out on the low-end QB1/high-end QB2 upside plays like Aaron Rodgers, Baker Mayfield and Matthew Stafford, you’d better believe I’ll be playing the quarterback streaming game. As crazy as it may sound, Tyrod is the top option in Week 1 so he is actually draftable in one-QB leagues. Not only does he take on one of the weakest defenses in Week 1, but his next eight weeks before the bye are ALL promising matchups (KC, CAR, @TB, @NO, NYJ, @MIA, JAC, LV) so don’t be surprised if he is sitting within the top 12 fantasy QBs by mid-season.
- Jimmy Garoppolo (SF vs ARI)
- Derek Carr (LV @ CAR)
Flex Streamers
Duke Johnson (HOU @ KC)
Chances are, you won’t need to use an RB or WR from a late-round pick in the first week of the season, but if injuries, suspensions or holdouts strike, as they often do, Johnson could come in handy. The Chiefs were one of the worst teams against fantasy running backs last year, and as you may have guessed, they were torn up through the air with teams trying to play catch-up. Duke doesn’t have much seasonal upside but is a steady RB4/RB5 who should benefit from that exact game-script in Week 1.
- Marlon Mack (IND @ JAC)
- DeSean Jackson (PHI @ WAS)
- Parris Campbell (IND @ JAC)
- Mohamed Sanu (NE vs MIA)
