Waiver Wire Rankings: Week 10 (Fantasy Football)

Despite the slew of injuries we witnessed this week, the vast majority of them may have little fantasy impact. Ailments suffered by Adam Thielen and Jacoby Brissett would primarily be the only exceptions to that, making the waiver wire especially thin on a six-team bye week. Even with the lack of waiver-claim worthy adds, there are still plenty of streamable options for owners who need a stopgap down the stretch. Our featured pundits have the skinny on who you would be wise to put a waiver claim on and which defenses have the most appeal as Week 10 streamers.

Q1. How much are you willing to spend (FAAB %) on your favorite waiver wire target (or two) and why do you like him?

Derrius Guice (RB – WAS)
“If Ronald Jones were somehow still available, I’d shell out 50-100 percent of my remaining FAAB, but outside of that, there isn’t anyone I’d break the bank for this week. I’d be willing to spend 5-10 percent of my FAAB on Guice in order to see if the talented 22-year-old can make some noise in the second half. Adrian Peterson has performed admirably for Washington, but that team is going nowhere, so they might as well see what they have in Guice. Otherwise, I’d try to cheaply stash a backup running back, like Alexander Mattison or Darrell Henderson.”
– Andrew Seifter (FantasyPros)

“As thin as waivers are these days, especially at running back, it’s worth taking a chance on someone like Derrius Guice. The Redskins not only want to run the ball, but they also have no choice in order to protect Dwayne Haskins. Once Guice is back, presumably in Week 11, he should see 12-15 carries initially with the likelihood that he takes over the lion’s share of the carries around Week 14 (fantasy playoff season). If I had a fringe playoff team or uncertainty at running back, I would spend up to 20% of my remaining FAAB in order to stash him. With Preston Williams ruled out for the season, I would make a point of adding DeVante Parker and/or Mike Gesicki too.”
– Pierre Camus (RotoBaller)

Ronald Jones II (RB – TB)
“We’d been waiting and waiting for Jones to wind-up with the starting gig and we finally got our wish in Week 9 when he carried the ball 18 times for 67 yards and a touchdown against the Seahawks. While I’m far from convinced he’s locked-in as the workhorse, it’s worth spending up to find out, especially if you need running back help. They’ll be playing the Cardinals in Week 10, which should present plenty of opportunity, as running backs are averaging nearly 30 touches per game against them. If you need running back help, you should be willing to drop 20-plus percent of your FAAB on Jones.”

Darrell Henderson (RB – LAR)
“Like many others, Ronald Jones would be my No. 1, but since I assume everyone else will explain why, I’ll tell you about another player I’m eager to add this week. Henderson is coming off the bye and it has been long enough that many of your leaguemates may have forgotten (or never realized) that after the first quarter of Week 8’s game, Henderson was far and away the lead back for the Rams, seeing 11 carries. While it is likely they were just taking it easy on Gurley, there is a chance we’ve got the new top dog in Sean McVay’s backfield, which is well worth 10% of your FAAB.”

DeVante Parker (WR – MIA)
“If Parker is still available on your waiver wire, I’d be willing to spend at least 20% of the remaining FAAB to get him on my roster. Parker scored again this week and has been a consistent producer. With Preston Williams now being out for the season, Parker could be in for a greater share of the targets in Week 11. His floor has been incredibly high this season (7.1 or more half-PPR points in every game except for when they played New England) and there has to be room for that on your roster.”

Q2. For owners renting a D/ST in Week 10, what readily available option (under 40%) should they target and why?

“It’s the Indianapolis Colts. If a defense is playing the Dolphins and is available in 60-plus percent of leagues, they’re going to be here. Opponents have sacked the Dolphins’ quarterback(s) at least three times in seven-of-eight games, including five or more times on three separate occasions. That’s not even counting the 12 interceptions and five fumble recoveries. The Colts are also at home, which is the ideal scenario for a streaming defense.”
– Mike Tagliere (FantasyPros)

“The Indianapolis Colts D/ST will never light up the scoreboard, but they are a solid source of points in favorable matchups. Needless to say, getting a home contest with the Dolphins is quite favorable. Although Miami didn’t turn the ball over in Week 9, I’d chalk that up to the Jets being the Jets and finding a way to be worse than the worst team in the league. Indy should be good for a turnover or two plus a handful of sacks at home, especially as Miami has fewer weapons without Kenyan Drake and Preston Williams.”
– Pierre Camus (RotoBaller)

“As Sunday’s game made clear, the meltdown is on for the Jets. Sam Darnold took three sacks against the Dolphins and the Jets struggled to move the ball against Miami’s depleted secondary. Meanwhile, the New York Giants had 22 sacks heading into Monday’s game against Dallas and should be able to turn up the heat on Darnold, leading to continued mistakes.”
– Jon Collins (Fantasy Sports LR)

“After watching the debacle that is Adam Gase’s Jets, I am picking up New York’s other team wherever I can. The Giants were awful early on, but they’ve quietly been half-decent of late despite a fairly challenging string of matchups (MIN, @NE, ARI, @DET). I wouldn’t be surprised to see them get lit up by the Cowboys tonight as they did in Week 1, but that wouldn’t stop me from streaming them against Sam Darnold next week in what will essentially be a home game.”
– Andrew Seifter (FantasyPros)

Arizona’s defense is not efficient and because they play such a fast pace, they give up a ton of points every game. That is bound to happen again in Week 10, but they are still the top streamer in a difficult week for D/STs. The reason, of course, is that they play Jameis Winston, who still makes a handful of awful decisions every week. You can bank on multiple turnovers. Plus, Arizona has 23 sacks on the season, so multiple sacks are in play, too.”
