Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Week 23

Here we go with the 23rd week of finding ignored pitchers turned serviceable for a day. Please take note that pitching rotations are always fluid, so most of these streaming options are projected starters who aren’t set in stone. That especially holds true for games played later in the week, so be sure to double-check the official announcements as we move closer to each date. Got it? Good!

Take note that we are looking for pitchers who are owned in less than 30 percent of Yahoo leagues. Occasionally a recommendation will exceed that threshold if they are in a particularly favorable streaming situation.

Now let’s dive into the good stuff!

Monday, September 2

Anthony DeSclafani (CIN) vs. Philadelphia  – 29% owned
DeSclafani was brilliant in his last start, recording eight strikeouts through seven scoreless innings against the Marlins. Don’t expect him to replicate that line in a challenging draw against the Phillies, but DeSclafani could flirt with another quality start. The Reds’ righty has been a reliable fantasy option through the better part of this season, and I don’t mind him as a two-start streamer this week.

Other Options: Aaron Civale (CLE) vs. CWS – 49% owned

Tuesday, September 3

Mike Foltynewicz (ATL) vs. Toronto – 47% owned
First off, you’ll want to double-check the status of Sean Manaea. He’s expected to make his MLB debut at some point this week, although we should expect a limited workload at first. However, Manaea could be a contributor through the final month of the season, so keep him on your watch list … Other than that, take a look at Foltynewicz if he’s available in your league. The Atlanta hurler was somewhat mediocre in his most recent start against Toronto, but he could get the best of the Blue Jays’ bottom ten offense in this rematch at home.

Other Options: Sean Manaea (OAK) vs. LAA – 25% owned

Wednesday, September 4

Jakob Junis (KC) vs. Detroit – 19% owned
It’s tough to endorse a mediocre pitcher who is playing for a bad team. However, that’s an easier pill to swallow when considering the historically bad offense he’s facing. Detroit ranks near the bottom in most major offensive categories this season, and Junis could come away with a respectable line when the Tigers make their way to Kansas City this week. Junis allowed two earned runs through six innings (6 K’s) against Detroit on August 11, and a similar performance isn’t out of the question.

Other Options: Tanner Roark (OAK) vs. LAA – 37% owned, Anibal Sanchez (WSH) vs. NYM – 46% owned

Thursday, September 5

Brock Burke (TEX) at Baltimore – 24% owned
Burke hasn’t completed his start against the Mariners (Aug. 31) at the time of drafting this article. However, the Texas lefty has impressed through his first two MLB appearances, allowing just one earned run with nine strikeouts through 12 innings against the Angels and White Sox combined. He’ll take his turn against an Orioles’ offense that ranks 23rd in wRC+ with an above-average strikeout rate at 23.7%.

Other Options: Zach Plesac (CLE) vs. CWS –  43% owned

Friday, September 6

Framber Valdez (HOU) vs. Seattle – 18% owned
Valdez is somewhat of a wild card, so keep that in mind when assessing the state of your fantasy squad heading into the weekend. The Houston lefty has posted some impressive stat-lines (6 IP, 1 ER, 8 K’s at LAA on Aug. 25), but he’s thrown up some stinkers as well. There’s no telling which version we’ll see this week, but I’m optimistic he can handle an injury-riddled Mariners’ lineup that ranks 24th in wRC+ over the past week.

Other Options: Michael Pineda (MIN) at CWS – 46% owned

Saturday, September 7

Danny Duffy (KC) at Miami – 6% owned
Duffy is expected to come off the injured list for Sunday’s (Sept. 1) start against the Orioles. Depending on how that goes, he should be in line to face the Marlins over this upcoming weekend. If Duffy looks somewhat respectable in his return to the mound, I wouldn’t hesitate to give him a thought against the lowly Marlins.

Other Options: Aaron Civale (CLE) at MIN – 49% owned

Sunday, September 8

Anthony DeSclafani (CIN) vs. Arizona – 29% owned
Let’s put a bow on this article by discussing the pitcher that found himself as our first recommendation. DeSclafani finds himself in another plausible home matchup against an average offense, which isn’t the worst spot to consider. As mentioned earlier, the Reds’ righty has proven his worth over the past few months, and I feel confident calling on him to boost your fantasy squad with another quality outing.

Other Options: Eric Lauer (SD) vs. COL – 14% owned
