Fantasy Baseball Injury Report: David Price, Craig Kimbrel, Robinson Cano

Welcome to the Week 20 edition of the Fantasy Baseball Injury Report. We have all of the latest injury news and updates from all around the league as you get your teams ready for the fantasy playoffs.

David Price (SP – BOS) was placed on the 10-day injured list August 8 with a cyst on his left wrist. He received a cortisone shot and may need minor surgery in the offseason, but there’s no word on when he’ll be ready to rejoin the Red Sox.

Craig Kimbrel (RP – CHC) hit the injured list last Monday with right knee inflammation. The Cubs’ closer felt discomfort after his most recent outing, and he is not expected to be out much more than the minimum. He is scheduled to throw a bullpen session August 12.

Robinson Cano (2B – NYM) had an MRI that revealed a torn hamstring and was placed on the injured list August 5. He is expected to miss a large portion of time but could possibly return before the end of the season.

Here are a few more injuries to track this week.

Yonny Chirinos (SP/RP – TB)
Chirinos is expected to miss at least four weeks with inflammation in his middle finger. He was placed on the 10-day injured list August 5.

Gleyber Torres (2B/SS – NYY)
Torres, who returned to action early last week despite being hospitalized on August 4, missed four games with core pain before returning to the lineup Sunday. He looks to avoid joining many of his Yankees teammates on the injured list.

Christian Yelich (OF – MIL)
Yelich was out of Milwaukee’s lineup August 6-10 with back discomfort, but he returned Sunday to strike out as a pinch-hitter. Currently listed as day-to-day, the reigning NL MVP said he’s feeling better and looks poised to rejoin the starting lineup this week.

Jay Bruce (1B/OF – PHI)
The day after returning from an oblique strain, Bruce was placed on the injured list with a flexor strain in his elbow. The Phillies are shutting him down from throwing and will re-evaluate him in two weeks.

Nelson Cruz (DH – MIN)
Minnesota placed the red-hot Cruz on the 10-day injured list August 9 with a ruptured wrist tendon. He is expected to meet with a specialist Monday, but there is no set timetable for his return yet.

Austin Riley (3B/OF – ATL)
Riley went on the 10-day injured list August 8 with a partial LCL tear in his right knee that occurred in the weight room. Riley is planning to visit Dr. James Andrews on Monday for a second opinion before deciding if he’ll undergo surgery.

Felix Pena (SP/RP – LAA)
Pena is out for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee. He is still waiting for the inflammation to subside before having the surgery.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (2B/SS/OF – TOR)
Gurriel was placed on the injured list August 10 with a Grade 1 quad strain. He might be able to return before the end of August.

Ken Giles (RP – TOR)
Derek Law picked up the save for Toronto on Saturday, and it was later revealed that Giles was unavailable due to elbow inflammation. He said he felt better the following day, but another IL stint is still possible.

Updating Previous Injuries

Yandy Diaz (1B/3B – TB): Foot
Diaz had a setback with his fractured left foot and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Luis Severino (SP – NYY): Lat
Severino threw 23 pitches off a mount August 9. He has spent all of 2019 on the injured list with rotator cuff inflammation and a lat strain and hopes to return — likely as a reliever — later this season.

Blake Snell (SP – TB): Elbow
Snell had six bone chips removed from his elbow and will play catch for the first time Monday. He does not have a firm timetable until the inflammation is out, but he could rejoin the Rays in September barring any setbacks.

Griffin Canning (SP – LAA): Elbow
Placed on the 10-day injured list with elbow inflammation August 4, Canning threw a bullpen session Saturday and is expected to return Tuesday to start against the Pirates.

Corey Kluber (SP – CLE): Arm
Kluber threw a simulated game this week and began a Triple-A rehab assignment August 8. He should be able to return to the Indians within the next couple of weeks.

Mitch Haniger (OF – SEA): Groin
Out since early June after undergoing surgery for a ruptured testicle, Haniger is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday.

Jake Arrieta (SP – PHI): Elbow
After getting tagged for five runs by the Giants on Sunday, Arrieta conceded that he might need to reconsider whether he’s healthy enough to keep pitching with a bone spur in his right elbow this season.
