It’s another small but mighty Monday slate on FanDuel tonight, with just five games on the main slate. It should be a high-scoring slate as well, with just one game (SF @ SD) with an expected run total less than a 9.5 O/U. That means pitching options are going to be thin, while there are many viable stacks on this five-game slate.

Starting Pitcher
Charlie Morton (TB): $10,200 vs. BAL
There aren’t many trustworthy pitching options on this slate, which is why it’s worth paying up for Morton in a cake matchup against the Orioles. Morton has continued his late career breakout, with a 2.43 ERA and 10.8 K/9 in 100 innings thus far. Conversely, the Orioles have been horrible against right-handed pitching this season. They have an 87 wRC+ and 22.6% K rate collectively versus righties. They’ve been worse away from home as well, with a 77 RC+ and 25.1% K rate. Between matchup, ability, and ballpark, there isn’t a better option than Morton on this slate. There aren’t any low-priced starters this writer would be willing to gamble on tonight.
Four Player Padres Stack: $12,000 vs. SF
Ian Kinsler (2B): $2,200
Fernando Tatis Jr. (SS): $4,300
Josh Naylor (OF): $2,500
Franmil Reyes (OF): $3,000
Jeff Samardzija was once considered a reliable, boring veteran, and he still is one in some ways. Samardzija reliably gives up 4-5 runs every time out, and has steadily been getting worse as the season progresses. He had a 5.93 ERA in June, and has been getting torched on the road for a 5.18 ERA and 1.94 HR/9. PETCO Park is known as a pitcher’s park, but it’s not nearly as forgiving as AT&T Park. Samardzija’s chronic Gopheritis has worsened with age, and he’s certainly a pitcher to target tonight.

Fernando Tatis Jr. headlines this stack, and he’s one of the game’s best hitters as of late. In June Tatis hit .382 with five home runs and six steals. He also had an 1.171 OPS and .329 ISO last month. He is a must-have for any Padres’ stack. Franmil Reyes is laughably underpriced for the power we’re getting with him. Don’t worry about facing a same-handed pitcher either, as Reyes has demolished righties for 22 of his 24 homers along with an .889 OPS and .335 ISO. Josh Naylor is a powerful left-handed prospect who has been filling in for Hunter Renfroe, and if Renfroe sits again Monday then Naylor is a great cheap option to use against Samardzija. Kinsler rounds out the stack as a cheap punt option at second base, which is a relatively weak position on this slate.
Four Player Reds Stack: $12,700 vs. MIL
Joey Votto (1B): $3,300
Eugenio Suarez (3B): $3,200
Jesse Winker (OF): $2,700
Yasiel Puig (OF): $3,400
Adrian Houser is the opener for Milwaukee in this game, but it will be a bullpen game for the Brew Crew. Freddy Peralta pitched 1.2 innings on Sunday, but only threw 14 pitches, so he could be available for some work. Otherwise, we’re looking at a team with a 4.19 bullpen ERA, and that’s including Josh Hader‘s numbers. In a hitter-friendly ballpark like Cincinnati, it’s worth attacking a team that’s trotting out below average relievers every few innings.
Joey Votto has begun to pick his game up in June, hitting .313 with four homers and a .936 OPS. He’s slowly returning to form, and his poor overall numbers have depressed his price significantly, making Votto an excellent value on this slate. Suarez has not been hitting well as of late (.170 AVG in June), but he clobbered a home run yesterday and is a proven hitter in the middle of this order at a good price. As Cincinnati’s number three hitter Suarez fits well into this stack. Jesse Winker has been sitting quite a bit over the last few days as the Reds face an inordinate amount of left-handed starters, but he hits leadoff against righties and is coming off his best month. Winker had an .852 OPS and .193 ISO in June, and has an .852 OPS and .247 ISO overall against righties this season. Yasiel Puig rounds out the stack, as he’s also returned to form in June. Puig hit .286 with seven homers over the month of June, and with him, we should get Cincinnati’s top four hitters at more than reasonable prices. Nick Senzel ($3,500) could be swapped out for Puig, but Puig is this writer’s preferred option.
