There is a small five-game MLB DFS slate to start off the work week and the month of July on Monday night. It is a pretty ugly slate without much to like on the mound. Yet, we must find two pitchers to fill out a lineup on DraftKings, so I’ll look to pair together a couple of southpaws on the bump who will leave a lot of money left over to spend up on bats. At least the weather looks safe for all games to play, so we have that going for us.
As always, be sure to pay close attention to the lineups when they are released and monitor the weather leading up to game time. For reference throughout the season, be sure to bookmark our overview of MLB Park Factors and how to Use Weather to Your Advantage in MLB DFS.

Pitchers
Logan Allen (SD): $9,200 vs. SF
I really don’t want to pay this salary for a pitcher making just his third big league start, but that is the situation we are in on the small five-game slate on Monday night. Allen has pitched fairly well in his first two outings allowing just a total of two runs over 13 innings with 10 strikeouts. He will be pitching at home as a favorite against the Giants who rank dead least in wOBA (.273) and wRC+ (70) against lefties over the last 30 days. They have also struck out at a 23.9% clip during that stretch, so another solid outing from Allen seems likely.

Ryan Yarbrough (TB): $6,500 vs. BAL
The second pitcher to use is Yarbrough who is expected to be the primary long reliever for the Rays on Monday night. While no Vegas line was out as of this writing, expect the Rays to be heavy favorites playing at home against the Orioles, which should put Yarbrough in line for a win. The Orioles have posted a .295 wOBA (26th), 82 wRC+ (26th), and 24.8% strikeout rate (6th) against lefties over the last 30 days. Yarbrough has pitched well recently allowing just one run over his last 12 innings (three appearances) with 10 strikeouts.

Hitters
Manny Machado (3B/SS – SD): $5,100 vs. SF
You don’t want to mess with Machado right now as the Padres slugger has been on fire over the last few weeks. He has homered three times over his last two games and during his last 15 games, he is batting .412 with 10 homers. Machado will be at home against Jeff Samardzija who has allowed a 5.18 ERA and .339 wOBA on the road this season. Machado has also had some success against Samardzija during his career going 5-for-11 with a pair of homers.
Eric Thames (1B – CIN): $4,900 @ CIN
The stars could be aligning for Thames to have a good night on Monday in Cincinnati. He has been hitting well recently going 6-for-12 with three doubles and two homers over his last four games. Thames has also had a track record of success against the Reds since joining the Brewers in 2017. In 36 games (29 starts), Thames is a batting .291 with 14 home runs. A pair of those homers have come off the Reds Monday night starter, Tyler Mahle, to go along with a pair of walks in six plate appearances.
Elvis Andrus (SS – TEX): $4,600 vs. LAA
Andrus has collected at least one hit in eight straight games and multiple hits in seven of his last 11 starts. He has been at his best this season at home versus a lefty with a .511 wOBA and .290 ISO. Andrus will face the Angels left-hander Jose Suarez on Monday in Texas. During his brief big-league career, Suarez has allowed a .370 wOBA and 2.84 HR/9 to right-handed hitters.
Kyle Schwarber (OF – CHC): $3,900 @ PIT
The DraftKings salary generator continues to be broken when it comes to Schwarber. He continues to hover around the $4k mark even though he has been batting leadoff and producing for the Cubs. He collected three hits including a homer on Sunday and will face right-hander Trevor Williams on Monday in Pittsburgh. Schwarber has a .339 wOBA and .275 ISO against righties on the road this season and has a .333 average with two homers off Williams in 15 career at-bats.
Scooter Gennett (2B – CIN): $3,900 vs. MIL
Gennett has returned into the mix for the Reds after missing most of the season. He is coming off back-to-back big seasons in Cincinnati and will face his former team, the Brewers, on Monday. Gennett posted a .375 wOBA and .196 ISO against righties last season. He will face right-hander Adrian Houser who has allowed a .359 wOBA to lefties this year. It may take a little bit of time for Gennett to get his groove at the plate, but priced under $4k is a good time to take a shot on him.
