Plenty of teams are in action this Wednesday evening with the main-slate including 12 games. It is another tough decision at pitcher tonight in a loaded field. It seems as though paying up for pitchers, regardless of the matchup, has not panned out. Last night, Stephen Strasburg appeared to be a lock against the Chicago White Sox, yet allowed five earned runs through just five innings of work.
As we know, the story this season has been the home runs. This past May we witnessed more dingers in a month than ever before. By paying down at starting pitcher, we can afford the expensive power-hitters who provide the massive upside. Let’s take a deeper dive into this slate and uncover some of the best players to roster tonight on Fanduel.

Pitchers
Yu Darvish (CHC): $8,200 vs. COL
One thing is very certain, Yu Darvish is not the same elite ace as a few years ago. The major concern with Darvish has been a massive increase in BB/9. For most of his career, Darvish has averaged a 3.56 BB/9. However, in 2018 this number increased to 4.73 and now 6.05 to start in 2019. What is encouraging is the double-digit K rate is back. He has nasty stuff and can generate swing and misses as good as anyone in the league. Chicago hosts the Rockies who are a completely different team on the road. Last night, Kyle Hendricks fanned 10 Rockies and he has half the talent Darvish possesses. Although there is a risk with the ballpark and matchup, Darvish is priced down with plenty of upside.
John Means (BAL): $7,200 @ TEX
The fantasy community still has not shown their respect for John Means. He is priced just $7,200 on FanDuel, which is absurd considering this start to the season. With five wins and a 2.80 ERA, Means also flashed strikeout upside in his last outing where he struck out seven Tigers. Although Globe Life is a hitters park, Means pitches in Baltimore, also a hitters paradise. Texas has some powerful hitters in their lineup, no doubt. However, most hit from the left side and Means is a southpaw himself. Nowadays, all pitchers have inherited risk. Means provides salary relief on a night we want to pay up for hitters.
Other notables:
- James Paxton (NYY): $10,000 @ TOR
- German Marquez (COL): $9,000 @ CHC
- Felix Pena (LAA): $6,700 vs. OAK
Hitters
Christian Yelich (MIL): $4,900 vs. MIA
The Brewers were absolutely embarrassed last night, against the worst team in the league, at home. Rest assured they will be coming out swinging tonight against Sandy Alcantara. Christian Yelich is one of the leagues best hitters and is back home in Miller Park. Yelich is expensive, but clearly one of the top hitting options at any position this evening.
Josh Bell (PIT): $4,400 vs. ATL
On the Season, Josh Bell is among the league leaders in average exit velocity. He has been crushing the baseball as of late and finds himself squaring off against a gas can. Kevin Gausman is coming off one of his worst outings, possibly ever. Allowing eight runs against in just one inning. A full Pirates stack is certainly viable, lead by the powerful switch-hitter.
Starling Marte (PIT): $3,700 vs. ATL
The second best hitter for the Pirates is veteran outfielder, Starling Marte. He has a power-speed combination which creates a high fantasy floor in DFS. As mentioned above, Kevin Gausman has been horrible. Marte should be hitting next to Bell in the Pirates lineup and will serve as a great mini-stack.
Matt Carpenter (STL): $3,200 vs. CIN
Make sure to watch the weather report before locking in anyone in this game. That being said, if this game is a go, consider all left-handed hitters against Anthony DeSclafani. The Reds starter has allowed 14 home runs this season, nine of which have come from the left side. He owns a .432 wOBA to left-handed hitters (compared to a .257 versus righties) in 2019. Carpenter should have no issue getting ahold of one in this game.
Other notables:
- Mike Moustakas (MIL): $4,000 vs. MIA
- Yasmani Grandal (MIL): $3,600 vs. MIA
- Alex Bregman (HOU): $4,300 @ SEA
- Austin Meadows (TB): $4,400 @ DET
- Avisail Garcia (TB): $3,500 @ DET
