Mike Tagliere’s Week 17 Fantasy Football Rankings

First off, let’s have a quick conversation about why you’re still playing fantasy football in Week 17. Even if you’ve done your due diligence all season, stayed on top of the waiver wire, avoided injuries, and made trades to set you up for the playoffs. None of that means a thing in Week 17 if your running back plays for a team that’s eliminated, or even worse, locked into their playoff slot. This is the most volatile week in fantasy football, so if you thought the last few weeks were odd, you’d better buckle up. You want to eliminate as much luck as possible from fantasy leagues (there’s always going to be a slight element of luck), so please, for the love of all that is good in this world, hold your fantasy championship in Week 16.

You may see some of your favorite players much further down than you may have anticipated this week, so let me explain why. The Saints and Cowboys have absolutely nothing to play for this week. It’s very possible that their starters are pulled after a quarter of play. Provided the Rams win against the 49ers (they should), the Bears can choose their opponent with a win/loss, so there’s a certain level of risk with them. We’ve also heard Ron Rivera talk about “being smart” with Christian McCaffrey now that it’s a lost season. These are the biggest story-lines as we head into Week 17.
