Waiver Wire Rankings: Week 9 (Fantasy Football)

Waiver Wire Rankings: Week 9 (Fantasy Football)

It’s not running backs that are set to reinvigorate this week’s waiver wire, but instead wide receivers. DeVante Parker finally had his breakout game thanks to the Dolphins’ lack of healthy receivers, D.J. Moore is being more involved in Carolina’s offense, and David Moore found the end zone yet again. In addition, the Demaryius Thomas trade rumors make Courtland Sutton look like a stashable option and Keke Coutee is thrust into the fantasy spotlight in the wake of Will Fuller’s season-ending injury. With the Bengals, Cardinals, Colts, Eagles, Giants, and Jaguars all going on a bye, fantasy owners will need to scour the free agent pool for replacement wideouts to help them weather what will be a tough week for many owners at the position. Luckily for you, our featured experts have come to share which widely available waiver targets are most deserving of your FAAB dollars.

Q1. How much are you willing to spend (FAAB %) on your favorite waiver wire target (or two) and why do you like him?

Jack Doyle (TE – IND)
“It’s not often a top-eight tight end hits the waiver wire, especially in the year 2018, where every-week producers are rare. Doyle came off a five-week absence, which came with big question marks about how healthy he’d actually be, but he answered those questions by playing 57 snaps compared to just 17 snaps from Eric Ebron. It also doesn’t hurt that he racked up six catches for 70 yards and a touchdown. If you’re someone who has been attempting to stream tight ends, Doyle is worth 20-plus percent of your budget.”
Mike Tagliere (FantasyPros)

“With the state of the tight end position this season, I’d be willing to spend at least 25% of my budget up to 50% to get Jack Doyle. Outside the top-four TEs, which includes Ebron, who will lose a ton of value with Doyle’s return, TE is a complete crapshoot. We just saw David Njoku put up a goose egg in Week 8 and we thought he was trustworthy. Go get Doyle!”
Joe Bond (Fantasy Six Pack)

Keke Coutee (WR – HOU)
“With the usual caveats that FAAB is very much dependent on team needs and league context, I would be willing to bid 20-30 percent of my budget on Coutee if I need a WR for the stretch run. With Fuller lost for the season, Coutee should see a major uptick in targets once he is over his hamstring injury. Coutee was already showing signs of life before Fuller went down, and with Deshaun Watson finally looking healthy himself, there are going to be lots of fantasy points to be had in this high-flying offense.”
Andrew Seifter (FantasyPros)

“I’ve got Keke Coutee just barely over DeVante Parker as my top pickup this week and would spend right around 15% of my FAAB on either. Coutee is coming off a hamstring injury, but has been excellent when healthy this year and should suddenly move into a substantial target share with Fuller now out for the season. The rookie is a big-play threat and also a quality route runner so I’m expecting a big weekly ceiling with a reliable floor.”
Bobby Sylvester (FantasyPros)

D.J. Moore (WR – CAR)
“As the first wide receiver selected in this year’s NFL Draft, Moore continues to see his role expand within Carolina’s offense. In a tough matchup against the Ravens, he had five catches for 90 yards on six targets, all of which were season highs, and added 39 rushing yards. Exceeding 60 yards from scrimmage in three of his past four games, Moore has a total of 16 catches for 227 yards and 75 rushing yards during that stretch. If I needed wide receiver help, I’d be willing to spend up to 10-15% of my FAAB budget on him.”

Q2. For owners renting a D/ST in Week 9, what readily available option (under 40%) should they target and why?

Miami’s defense hasn’t played great lately, but they get a rookie quarterback at home as they come off their mini-bye. The defense scored double-digit fantasy points as they racked up three sacks, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery in their first matchup against Sam Darnold and the Jets back in Week 2. Throwing nearly as many interceptions (10) as touchdowns (11) this season, Darnold gives the Dolphins defense an excellent chance to bounce back.”
Kevin Hanson (EDSFootball)

“The Miami Dolphins have been getting destroyed lately, but prior to those past two games, they had 11 interceptions and 10 sacks through six weeks while limiting their opponents to just 22.2 points per game. While that isn’t top-notch, it should certainly translate well versus the turnover-prone Sam Darnold and a shaky Jets’ offense.”
Bobby Sylvester (FantasyPros)

“This week I really hope you have a good defense on your roster already that you are comfortable using because there are not very good streaming options. That said, if you don’t, then you can look at the Kansas City Chiefs. They get to face the Browns who allow the seventh-most points to opposing teams this season. Yes, the Chiefs have a pretty bad defense, but the Browns, who just fired Hue Jackson, are the most sacked team this season, while the Chiefs have the second-most sacks this season. You’re likely to get a few sacks at the very least and who knows, maybe Tyreek Hill returns a kick as well.”
Joe Bond (Fantasy Six Pack)

“Let’s just say that the Bills defense forgot to show up in Indianapolis in Week 7, shall we? Prior to that game, they’d totaled 15 sacks in their last four games, hadn’t allowed an opponent to score more than 22 points, and totaled 11 turnovers (five interceptions, six fumbles). After they play Tom Brady on Monday Night Football, they’ll play against the oft-inaccurate Mitch Trubisky, who’s struggled more than his stats say. He’s also been sacked at least twice in all but one game this year.”
Mike Tagliere (FantasyPros)

“The Cowboys defense will be well rested coming off their Week 8 bye, and they are set up for success with a primetime home matchup against the Titans on tap for Week 9. The Cowboys have held their opponents under 20 points in five of their seven games, and the Titans have scored more than 21 points just once all year. Marcus Mariota is really struggling, so the potential for turnovers will also be there in a hostile environment.”
Andrew Seifter (FantasyPros)
