Today we are going to go through a PPR Mock that I decided to conduct from the two spot. Given that in my three snake redraft leagues, I pick at 6, 7, and 7, it was enlightening to see what things look like from the front of the board. The format is 12-team PPR QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, Flex, DEF, K, 6 BN. I treated this as if it were my real draft for my most important league. This is exactly what I would actually do. Here we go.

1.2 Le’Veon Bell (RB – PIT) ECR #2, ADP #2
The second-overall pick is the easiest pick in the draft. You just take whichever one of David Johnson and Le’Veon Bell is available. These two guys are so far and away the best players in fantasy that it truly is a fail if they are not the first two picks in any league.
2.11 Brandin Cooks (WR – NE) ECR #24, ADP #25
This has been my target in the second round of every draft. I don’t really care where I pick. I want Brandin Cooks. He was a WR1 last season while not being used to his full potential. Bill Belichick went out and got this guy because he knows he can unlock Cooks’ greatness. Cooks is not Randy Moss, but he’s the closest thing Tom Brady has had since. I like Cooks to return elite WR1 value this season.
3.2 Aaron Rodgers (QB – GB) ECR #33, ADP #24
I’m a “wait on a QB” proponent, yet I just took Rodgers in the third round. Why? Well, I hate the third round this year. I hate it no matter where I pick. I don’t particularly like any of the RBs or WRs significantly more than the RBs or WRs going in the next two or three rounds. Rodgers is clearly the best QB in fantasy football and comes with matchup-winning upside every week. The advantage gained by taking Rodgers is greater than the advantage I would gain by taking a player at a different position.
4.11 Tyreek Hill (WR – KC) ECR #55, ADP #48
I took Hill here because he was by far the best player on my board. I have Hill ranked as my WR10 against his ECR of WR26. This is a potential league-winning pick if I’m correct. Hill was incredibly efficient last season which indicates that he is good at football. His snap count stands to double this season, and Andy Reid is treating him like a weapon he has to protect, which shows me the team believes he is important. I am all-in on Hill in 2017.
5.02 Spencer Ware (RB – KC) ECR #60, ADP #56
This was another very easy pick to make. Spencer Ware is my RB8 and this is the fifth round. Obviously, I view Ware as a low-end RB1. He was a high-end RB1 last season until a concussion and Parker Ehringer’s injury derailed his season. Ware is the starter. The Chiefs did not let Jamaal Charles walk because they didn’t believe in Ware. Remember, when they let Charles go, they didn’t know they were going to be able to draft Kareem Hunt. I like Hunt as a player as well, but he is firmly behind Ware. In a projected 60-40 snap share, Ware can be an RB2 and that’s all I need based on where I took him. I think he will be much more.
*I wrote the above before Ware’s knee injury. Obviously Ware is no longer a fifth-round pick.
6.11 Cameron Meredith (WR – CHI) ECR #85, ADP #95
Once again, I am going with the clear best player on my board. We are at the point in the draft where my only concern is getting the players I want. Picking from the two spot, generally, I should be able to get both guys I want at each turn. I am certain I will not get Meredith in Round 8. Mike Glennon and eventually Mitch Trubisky are both upgrades on the QB play Meredith dealt with last season, where he managed four 100-yard receiving games. Meredith is incredibly athletic with a huge catch radius. He is the clear No. 1 receiver, and I expect him to be a high-end WR2.
7.02 Theo Riddick (RB – DET) ECR #75, ADP #82
I went with Riddick here because, of course, he’s the best RB remaining on my board, and I’m willing to gamble that I can get my next target at my next pick. We’ll see if that paid off. So far, I’ve taken somewhat risky players in Hill and Ware. Riddick is as safe as they come. He is a floor pick. I can insert him into my lineup in a bind and know he won’t get me zero. He is also one Ameer Abdullah injury away from lock stock RB2 value. That’s exactly what I want in the first guy off my bench.
8.11 Tyrell Williams (WR – SD) ECR #91, ADP #94
My gamble paid off! I got my guy in Williams. The Chargers most talented Williams is coming off a surprise 1,000-yard season after he was thrust into a starting role following Keenan Allen’s Week 1 torn ACL. Williams, like Meredith, has an elite catch radius and off the charts athleticism. He enters this season as the clear starter opposite Allen. Williams has the upside to shatter his ADP even with a healthy Allen, which is anything but a given. If Allen goes down again, I just got the top receiver on a strong offense at the end of the eighth round.
9.02 Martellus Bennett (TE – GB) ECR #95, ADP #92
Martellus Bennett has been around the block a few times. This year, he’s landed with Rodgers, who I happened to draft in the third round. It’s never a bad thing to have a pass catcher tied to Rodgers. Marty B has been a rock solid TE ever since he left Dallas and the shadow of Jason Witten. While I am not as high on him as others, I needed a TE, and he was the best one on my board.
10.11 Samaje Perine (RB – WAS) ECR #135, ADP #131
We are now in the double digits. My goal is to fill out my bench with players that I feel could potentially push some of my starters for their jobs. Perine fits the bill. I think Rob Kelley is one of the worst RBs not just starting but in the entire NFL. He is slow. He can’t catch. His workout metrics are all toward the bottom of the league. There is nothing appealing about him aside from the fact that he’s currently the starter for the Redskins. Perine is firmly behind Kelley on the depth chart. That’s okay. I don’t need Perine early in the season. I’m projecting a Jordan Howard type take over around Week 4 or 5. Perine is just the better player, and the Redskins are going to be a good offense. I want their RB. I think it will be Perine. And if I’m wrong, I can just drop him.
11.02 Rex Burkhead (RB – NE) ECR #154, ADP #165
Burkhead is the most talented RB on the Patriots. He is better than Mike Gillislee at every aspect of football. He is a better pass catcher than James White. He is a better between the tackles runner than Dion Lewis. Lewis is more elusive, but the reality is if the Patriots liked Lewis, they wouldn’t have signed Burkhead and Gillislee and extended White. I do think White will be the passing down back, but Burkhead is the one who can do everyone’s job. I’ll gamble in the 11th round that I may be getting Danny Woodhead-lite.
12.11 Cooper Kupp (WR – LAR) ECR #164, ADP #168
I was pretty high on Kupp when he was drafted. I was even higher when he came out of training camp as the top WR on the depth chart. I soured on him a bit when the Rams traded for Sammy Watkins. But after watching the first two preseason games, I can’t deny the truth – Kupp is just really good. I want him on my team. It’s the 12th round. He can be a WR3 if the Rams offense improves.
13.02 Justin Tucker (K – BAL) ECR #174, ADP #138
This one is short and sweet. I have to take a Kicker, Defense, and one more skill position player. There is no skill position player I am particularly enamored with such that I need to make sure I get him. Justin Tucker is the best kicker. He also holds a special place in my heart. This goes against everything I stand for, but why should I not get the player I want at kicker when I am sacrificing absolutely nothing?
14.11 Buffalo Bills (DEF) ECR #278, ADP #236
This one is easy. I stream defenses. The defense I draft is one I intend to use in Week 1. The Bills play the Jets week one. Need I say more?
15.02 Antonio Gates (TE – LAC) ECR #159, ADP #184
The old man just keeps on ticking. His snap count may drop, but given his usage in the preseason, I’m not sure it will be that significant. Philip Rivers loves him. Gates is going to score some touchdowns. It’s the last round. Why not?
