Should you pay up for David Johnson with several high-volume options available for much less?
Let’s take a look at the highest projected ownership levels on FanDuel for each position in Week 8.

Quarterback
Aaron Rodgers (GB): $8,800 @ ATL (14.2% Own%)
Rodgers has a great matchup against the Falcons in Week 8. However, I believe you can get more bang for your buck by dropping down and either using Andrew Luck at $7,900 or Matt Ryan at $8,500. Historically, Rodgers has not been nearly as good on the road as he is at home, and he has not been nearly as great as in years pass. His completion percentage is 2.4% lower than his career average and his quarterback rating is 11.3 points less than his career average.
Running Back
David Johnson (ARI): $8,700 @ CAR (27.5% Own%)
Johnson has arguably been the best running back in the NFL in 2016. Johnson leads the NFL in rushing touchdowns with eight and also in yards from scrimmage with 1,004 yards. Although he has been the best running back in the league this season, I believe you can look elsewhere in your cash games. By using either Devontae Book at $5,600 or Devonta Freeman at $6,900, you can really afford to pay up at other positions.
Wide Receiver
Mike Evans (TB): $7,900 vs. OAK (32.4% Own%)
Evans had another huge game in Week 7 with eight receptions, 96 yards and two touchdowns. Evans has another great matchup this week against the Raiders, who have allowed the fifth-most FanDuel points to wide receivers this season. Jameis Winston’s favorite target should once against put up great numbers and he is still fairly priced this week.
Tight End
Rob Gronkowski (NE): $8,100 vs. BUF (22.1% Own%)
Gronkowski had another solid game in Week 7 catching all four of his targets for 93 yards and a touchdown. Despite being an elite tight end, I think you can go in another direction in both cash game and GPPs. Jimmy Graham and Jack Doyle are two cheaper options that will allow you to pay up at other positions.
Kicker
Adam Vinatieri (IND): $5,100 vs. KC (18.7% Own%)
Vinatieri has been great this season with the most FanDuel points for kickers. While he is in another great spot in Week 8, I believe you can go a cheaper route in your FanDuel lineups. Mason Crosby and Cairo Santos are two solid options you can use to save some salary at the kicker position.
D/ST
New York Jets: $4,700 @ CLE (20.1% Own%)
The Jets have a great matchup in Week 8 against the Browns. However, their defensive unit has not been nearly as good as they have been in years past. Darrelle Revis is past his prime, so their secondary is pretty weak now. Also, they aren’t nearly as dominant against the run as they have been in years past. For cash games, I recommend spending an additional $300 and using the Broncos and for GPPs I recommend dropping to a cheaper option.
