Allen Robinson is off to a slow start, but his schedule starts opening up Week 3

“Don’t get cute, start your studs.” The old fantasy football adage does not always work the way we want it to. It is frustrating when your studs underperform and fail to fulfill their expectations. It is hard to determine whether your star players just had a few bad games or if the trend will continue.

A multitude of factors influences performance. Opportunity. Devonta Freeman finished as RB1 in both standard and PPR in 2015 and is currently in an RBBC with Tevin Coleman. Scheme. Demaryius Thomas finished as WR3 in 2014 with a more pass-happy system in Denver but is slowly seeing his numbers decrease due to a strong running game, elite defense, and catching passes from quarterbacks not named Manning. Age/Injury. A little over a year ago, Jimmy Graham was considered a first or second round draft pick in fantasy drafts. Now, he is probably available on your waiver wire.

Be patient with your studs. In 2015, Allen Robinson finished as WR4 (standard) and WR6 (PPR). Through two weeks, he is currently WR53 scoring only 12.6 fantasy points in standard scoring. Among many others, receivers like Greg Salas, Quincy Enunwa, and Marquise Goodwin all have more fantasy points than Robinson. There was a concern with Robinson coming into the season. The Jacksonville Jaguars were chasing points last year which allowed Blake Bortles, Allen Hurns, and Robinson to return great fantasy seasons. Many fantasy experts predicted Jacksonville would have an improved running game and defense after key offseason acquisitions. So far, none of those predictions seem to be credible. Chris Ivory has not played, and T.J. Yeldon has been completely ineffective. The defense gave up 27 points to Green Bay and 38 to San Diego. Expect the Jaguars to continue to be down in most games and chasing points.

Robinson will rebound in a significant way. In Week 1, he was targeted 15 times and narrowly missed a few big plays. Also, the NFL admitted 16 missed calls, many of them which should have been pass interference calls on balls thrown to Robinson. Remember, in 2015, combining two of his first three games he had less than 100 yards receiving on only five catches. But, he also had a six-catch, 155-yard, two-TD performance against Miami. He is an elite talent with excellent hands, great body control and is a polished route runner.

So, take a deep breathe, do not panic and expect better days for Robinson. If you can buy low on him, now is the time to do it.
