It’s dynasty season for fantasy football and rookie drafts are underway. Our consensus rookie rankings have been shifting and with the start of organized team activities (OTAs), they’ll be sure to change more as your drafts approach.
With any rankings (especially with rookies) there is always a chance that things don’t pan out. After all, rookies have the unknown element of whether they can transfer their college game to the pros successfully. For that reason, we asked our featured pundits to name their overvalued rookies for dynasty purposes.
Q. What rookies do you feel are overvalued according to our Dynasty Rankings and why?
Will Fuller (WR – HOU)
Rookie Ranking: #10
“Fuller is slightly overvalued as the 10th overall rookie pick. I do believe he could become a worthwhile fantasy receiver, but on a run first team with DeAndre Hopkins and Braxton Miller there, along with a mediocre Brock Osweiler at the helm, I think his prospects are iffy at best.”
– Chet Gresham (Walter Football)
Alex Collins (RB – SEA)
Rookie Ranking: #25
“Collins has a chance to make his mark on the Seattle backfield, especially with Thomas Rawls rehabbing a broken ankle. The problem is, I just don’t see any special qualities in his game and it’s fair to question what type of receiving totals he’ll post going forward. Plus, Seattle added C.J. Prosise, a do-it-all running back in Round 3.”
– Kevin English (Draft Sharks)
Jared Goff (QB – LA)
Rookie Ranking: #20
“Goff is currently being overvalued sitting at No. 20 and this isn’t a knock against the player. Since 2006, Jeff Fisher teams have an average finish of 26th for total passing yards and 25th for passing touchdowns. The Rams just spent a top-10 pick on a franchise running back, committing to the way Fisher wants the offense to run. Goff is simply set up for fantasy failure in the current situation. Sure, someday the Rams could move on from Fisher, but will they? Since taking over for the Rams, Fisher has never led his team to crack the top-20 in scoring. Maybe Goff is the man who can turn that offense around, but he’s looking at an uphill battle the size of Mount Everest.”
– Mike Wright (The Fantasy Footballers)
Kenneth Dixon (RB – BAL)
Rookie Ranking: #8
“Not many are going to agree, but I think Kenneth Dixon is being overvalued at No. 8 overall. I have him slotted around 12th or 13th and in the grand scheme, it seems like I’m nit-picking, but I would much rather have a receiver in that spot or wait and take Prosise instead. I don’t hate him, but I feel like having him above Boyd and Fuller is a mistake that you will regret in a year or two.”
– Dennis Esser (Coach Esser)
Rashard Higgins (WR – CLE)
Rookie Ranking: #22
“I feel like the wide receiver rankings are pretty fair, but when we get down past the first 10 or so guys that’s where the big discrepancies take place. I do not like Rashard Higgins being so high on the list, at WR12. He is the fourth best WR the Browns drafted this year and that’s not a good sign for his future. He made plays in college, but showed no speed or athleticism. Give me Ricardo Louis and Jordan Payton’s upside instead.”
– Dennis Esser (Coach Esser)
