Quarterback and Tight End Streamers: Week 8

Quarterback and Tight End Streamers: Week 8

Ryan Fitzpatrick will try to continue his success Week 8 against the Raiders

With more and more fantasy owners opting to wait on the quarterback and tight end positions in drafts, streaming each position has become a viable option. This is made easier by the fact that there are usually solid options on the waiver wire. Each week this column will scour the waiver wire and look for quarterbacks and tight ends who are less than 50% owned and could be worth starting for your fantasy team. All ownership percentages come from Yahoo fantasy leagues.

Quarterback

Teddy Bridgewater – Minnesota Vikings (43% owned)
@ Chicago Bears

After starting the season throwing just two touchdowns over his first four games, Bridgewater has come on strong after the bye week with three in his last two games. A new weapon in the passing game has emerged in Stefon Diggs and should continue to help Bridgewater’s prospects going forward. It also helps that he has the always dangerous Adrian Peterson in the backfield, who defenses must account for. The Bears secondary has struggled to contain opposing signal callers this season. Chicago is allowing the third most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks at 20.3 per game, which makes Bridgewater an extremely attractive streaming option.

Ryan Fitzpatrick – New York Jets (28% owned)
@ Oakland Raiders

Fitzpatrick is enjoying a renaissance in New York after being let go by the Bills, Titans, and Texans in subsequent seasons. It helps that he has Chris Ivory to keep defenses honest and the duo of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker catching passes. Oakland was able to keep Philip Rivers down for the first half of Week 7’s game, but Rivers bounced back in the second half for three touchdowns and ended up with 336 yards. Fitzpatrick should be a top-end streamer against a Raiders pass defense which is ranked twenty-third in DVOA by Football Outsiders.

Tight End

Ladarius Green – San Diego Chargers (48% owned)
@ Baltimore Ravens

Green doesn’t have an ideal matchup this week, as he will square off against a Ravens defense that has been tough for tight ends to score against. Part of that can be attributed to how bad the Ravens are against receivers, which entices teams to funnel passes toward their wideouts and away from tight ends. Green is still an excellent pick up, especially if Antonio Gates misses another week with an MCL sprain. Even if Gates does play, Green is still worth checking on as he’s been on the field often even after Gates came back from suspension. In two games with Gates active, Green has played 67% of snaps and has seen nine targets.

Ben Watson – New Orleans Saints (41% owned)
vs. New York Giants

Watson is emerging as a legitimate part of the Saints’ passing offense, seeing 17 targets over his last two games. In Week 7 he caught four balls for 59 yards. He also came close to scoring twice as he was tackled at the opponent’s one-yard line on two separate occasions. The Giants are allowing tight ends to score the fifth most fantasy points in the league this season at 11.6 per game.
