Marquess Wilson

Marquess Wilson could be a roster bubble casualty

by Michael Vincent | Thu, May 28th 12:03pm EDT

Jeff Dickerson of ESPN Chicago broke down the Chicago Bears WR corps. When discussing Wilson he stated that "third-year wideout Marquess Wilson was supposed to have a breakout season last season, but a training camp injury derailed his sophomore campaign. Wilson was a Phil Emery late draft pick (seventh-round), so the new regime has no ties to the 6-foot-4 receiver. Wilson needs a strong preseason to ensure he’s on the 53-man roster." (Jeff Dickerson, ESPN Chicago)

Fantasy Impact:

Wilson was supposed to be the burner 3rd WR on the Bears offense under Marc Trestman. This never formulated as injuries kept Wilson out most of his time during his tenure with Chicago. With Trestman and Emery out and a lack of production while he was on the field, Wilson may not have another shot in Chicago with the team's recent additions. The Bears drafted Kevin White to replace Brandon Marshall in their offensive scheme opposite of Alshon Jeffrey. They also spent money on free agent receiver Eddie Royal. With the Tight End and Running Back being strong parts of John Fox and Adam Gase's passing schemes, Wilson will be the odd man out of most offensive sets. He needs to stay healthy or become a weapon on special teams to stay remotely fantasy relevant. An injury to one of the other receivers may be the only way Wilson sees consistent playing time under this new regime.
