The move was made to clear a 40-man roster spot for Canaan Smith-Njigba who the club claimed from the Pirates on Wednesday. The 27-year-old has just five MLB outings on his resume with a 7.07 ERA in that time while he posted a 5.83 ERA across 25 games, all starts, with Triple-A Tacoma in 2023.
