Devin Williams (RP - MIL)
Mon, Feb 15
Player Note on Devin Williams (RP - MIL)
Devin Williams was incredible in 2020 and ended up taking home the NL Rookie Year of the Year award. He owned a 0.33 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and a 53:9 K:BB across 27 innings last season. Williams will be one of the more popular relievers off the board for upcoming fantasy drafts, especially in league formats which use the category solds (save and holds). The Brewers reportedly were looking to move on from current closer Josh Hader. Williams would have the closer job all to himself and can be considered a top-5 reliever if Hader is dealt.
Eduardo Escobar (1B,2B,3B - NYM)
Mon, Feb 15
Player Note on Eduardo Escobar (1B,2B,3B - NYM)
Coming off a career-year in 2019, Escobar had one of his worst campaigns during his career in 2020. He slashed .212/.270/.335 with four homers, 20 RBI, 22 runs scored and one stolen base across 54 games. The 32-year-old's K%(18.5) and BB% (6.2) were close to his 2019 averages. Escobar could bounce back in 2021 and is a bargain at his current ADP of 270.
Ke'Bryan Hayes (3B - PIT)
Fri, Feb 12
Player Note on Ke'Bryan Hayes (3B - PIT)
Ke'Bryan Hayes busted onto the scene once he was promoted to the majors. He slashed .376/.442/.682 with five home runs, 11 RBI, 17 runs scored and one stolen base across 95 plate appearances in 2020. The 24-year-old is expected to be the Pirates primary third baseman and hit in the top of the order. Hayes stole 25 bases in the minors from 2018-2019 and is a threat for double digit steals. Hayes will look to build on his 2020 campaign and could produce a 20-10 season for fantasy managers in 2021.
Daulton Varsho (C,CF,LF,RF - ARI)
Thu, Feb 11
Player Note on Daulton Varsho (C,CF,LF,RF - ARI)
Dalton Varsho struggled during his first season in the majors, slashing .188/.287/.366 across 115 plate appearances. He is expected to be the Diamondbacks starting CF and will be catcher eligible in most league formats. The 24-year-old has legit power and did steal 40 bases in the minors. Varsho should see everyday at-bats and with his upside is considered a top-10 fantasy option at the catcher position.
Tyler Mahle (SP - CIN)
Thu, Feb 11
Player Note on Tyler Mahle (SP - CIN)
Tyler Mahle broke out in 2020, posting a 3.59 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 60 strikeouts across 47 2/3 innings. He added a slider to his pitch repertoire and upped his strike percentage to 29.6. The 26-year-old signed a one-year, $2.2 million contract with the Reds avoiding arbitration. Mahle will be a fixture in the Reds rotation and prove his breakout in 2020 was no fluke. He could be a mid-round bargain and a pitcher fantasy managers should be targeting in their upcoming drafts.
Jo Adell (LF,RF - LAA)
Wed, Feb 10
Player Note on Jo Adell (LF,RF - LAA)
Jo Adell is expected to begin the 2021 campaign in the minors as "he needs more time" to develop, per Angels manager Joe Madden. The Angels recently acquired OF Dexter Fowler and the veteran is expected to start alongside Mike Trout and Justin Upton, making Adell the odd man out. Adell struggled in the majors last season, slashing .161/.212/.266 across 132 plate appearances. He looked overmatched against major league pitching, but has all the tools to develop into a fantasy superstar. The 21-year-old will continue his development and is a boom-bust option in re-draft formats.
Bo Bichette (DH,SS - TOR)
Wed, Feb 10
Player Note on Bo Bichette (DH,SS - TOR)
Bo Bichette slashed .301/.328/.512 with five home runs and four stolen bases across 128 plate appearances in 2020. The 22-year-old has successfully swiped eight bases in just 13 attempts in his MLB career, but has yet to flash the speed he displayed in the minors. He has a ton of upside and should once again produce in a loaded Blue Jays lineup. Bichette has plenty of room for growth and is considered a top-10 middle-infield option in 2021.
Luis Robert (CF - CWS)
Tue, Feb 9
Player Note on Luis Robert (CF - CWS)
Luis Robert signed a long-term extension with the White Sox and has the upside to leap to superstardom in 2021. He slashed .233/.302/.406 with 10 home runs and nine stolen bases across 225 plate appearances. If it weren't for a rough September, Robert was well on his way to finishing as a top-20 player. His tools are off the chart and he will bat in the middle of a loaded White Sox lineup. Everything is lined up for Robert to bust out if he can put it all together in 2021.
