Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 10
Austin Seferian-Jenkins

Austin Seferian-Jenkins had a nice start prior to his injury

With another week full of big injuries, fantasy owners may need help on the waiver wire to make a late push for the playoffs.

Ownership totals are in ESPN leagues as of Tuesday

Landry Jones – QB – Pittsburgh Steelers – 1.3 percent

With Ben Roethlisberger returning from a knee injury last week, nobody expected to hear from Jones again this season. However, Roethlisberger suffered a foot sprain late on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders and is set to miss some more time.

Jones wasn’t asked to do too much when filling in for Roethlisberger previously, throwing for 209 yards and a touchdown in his first career start in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, with Le’Veon Bell now lost for the season, the Steelers may have no choice but to let Jones pass a little more.

While Jones is certainly inexperienced, he will be surrounded by a tremendous group of receivers to help out. Jones went 4/6 for 79 yards after filling in for Roethlisberger on Sunday, with the majority of the yardage coming on a long catch and run by Antonio Brown.

With Brown and Martavis Bryant among Pittsburgh’s targets, Jones should have plenty of opportunities for big plays. Jones gets an appealing matchup against the Cleveland Browns in his second career start on Sunday.

James White – RB – New England Patriots – 1.6 percent

Dion Lewis is out for the season after tearing his ACL on Sunday, meaning the Patriots will have to do some shuffling at the running back position. LeGarrette Blount will likely be the primary rusher and Brandon Bolden will be more involved, but White may stand to gain the most in Lewis’ absence.

In particular, White should take over Lewis’ role in the passing game for a New England offense that really values pass-catching backs. That gives White plenty of value in PPR leagues, and he should receive enough touches to be interesting elsewhere.

White was a healthy scratch on Sunday, so it’s still uncertain exactly how New England’s running back by committee will work. Still, with a matchup against a shaky New York Giants’ defense next week, White may be worth the risk for a number of owners.

Cole Beasley – WR – Dallas Cowboys – 3.3 percent

While Beasley has been on the brink of being fantasy relevant at times during his career, he’s been unable to sustain long periods of solid production. That could change after an excellent outing on Sunday night, as Beasley could have a bigger role in the Dallas offense over the next couple of weeks.

Beasley caught nine passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday’s overtime loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. As the Cowboys haven’t gone down the field too much with backup quarterback Matt Cassel in, Beasley acted as a sort of security blanket and proved difficult to cover in short-yardage situations.

That performance should earn Beasley an increase in targets over the next couple of weeks anyway, at least until Tony Romo returns from injury. With opponents’ attention more focused on a healthy Dez Bryant, Beasley could carry some fantasy value for the rest of the season.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins – TE – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 17.9 percent

Tight end help on the waiver wire can be very difficult to find this late in the season, so Seferian-Jenkins has about as much upside as owners’ could hope for at this point. Serferian-Jenkins has been out since Week 2 with a shoulder injury, but is just about ready to return to the field and will have some fantasy value.

The second-year tight end should instantly become one of Jameis Winston‘s favorite targets. Seferian-Jenkins looked poised for a breakout year in Week 1, catching five passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns before his season was derailed by injuries.

At 6-foot-6, 262 pounds, Seferian-Jenkins should be an excellent option in the red zone for a young quarterback. Winston and the Tampa Bay offense have improved tremendously over the past few weeks, so Seferian-Jenkins could have the potential to put together some big fantasy performances over the rest of the year.
