Week 1’s Most Accurate Experts

We’re back again this season to track the in-season accuracy of fantasy football experts. For those new to our accuracy competition, this is the 4th year we’ve run an assessment that evaluates the experts’ weekly rankings (past contest results available here).

Over the course of the next 16 weeks, we’ll analyze several million predictions from 90+ fantasy experts (see: methodology). Included in the expert lineup is our returning champ, Scott Pianowski (Yahoo! Sports), who edged out 2010’s winner, John Paulsen (4for4.com). Both experts will once again face stiff competition from the top experts the fantasy industry has to offer.

Of course, before we can crown a winner for the season, we need to look at week 1’s accuracy results. Below are the top experts for the first week of the season. Full standings are available in our accuracy category.

Congrats to Muntradamus (Beast Dome) for completing the sweep as the #1 Overall & #1 IDP expert from week 1. That’s an impressive feat that no other previous expert has accomplished in a single week. As part of his success, Muntradamus was the only pundit to slot Stevan Ridley inside his top 10 RBs and he correctly predicted that Jordy Nelson would have his hands full against a tough 49ers’ defense. His ranking of Nelson (WR #29) was the lowest of any expert we tracked. On the flip side, Muntradamus padded his rating by placing Robert Griffin III the highest (QB #5) of all experts. In the end, it was a week of big hits for the Beast Dome expert that earned him a well-deserved #1 accuracy score.

Kudos to the rest of the experts that nailed their predictions as well. We’ll be tracking each expert’s rankings all season so stay tuned as we provide weekly updates on the competition.
